Confusing Sonogram....

I had TAH with ovarian disection the disection was because of tumors and cysts. My obgyn has been after me to get estorgen level testing b/c I am almost 34 and he insists he took 90% of my ovary and believes what is left is absolutly not functioning. The TAH was b/c of cervical cancer, uterine polyps and i was filled with endometriosis everywhere.
For two weeks now (starting 5 weeks post op) i have been in terrible pain and having other symptoms. So fearing a possible internal infection I went to see him, of course he said not possible and he did noting wrong, he ordered blood work and a sonogram. Sono was scheduled for 3 hours later so in the meantime I went to see my GP/Internal Doctor who also ordered addition bloodwork because I had a seizure the night before with severe chest pain and right arm numbness.
I feel pain when I sit and get up which is frequent since I have a desk job. Returned to work 4 weeks post op for financial reasons and attributed my "problems" to exhaustion.
I should aslo say I have severe IBS, GERD and other intestinal issues. My GP clearly heard these problems and ordered 4 scripts to get my pain managed/
Well so then I go to Sonogram... to my horror and the sonogram peoples shock.... It appears as though I have a full size rigtht ovary (as if it was not butchered up) they did not see the one tumor from pre-op but did find another different massive cyst again. They called me a mystery woman.
My obgyn was in surgery after this discovery so we couldnt contact him and have to wait until Monday.
I saw my supposed lab/path at my 4 week check up which showed a huge tumor supposedly removed and non cancerous as well as 3 7x7x3 (or somewhere in that size range) cysts removed as well, hence my doc telling me 90% of the ovary was gone and he believes i am in surgical menopause.
My ?/concern is whos ovary did he take since the sono clearly showed I have a normal size ovary, although a massive cyst...could it really have formed that quickly in 7 weeks?
I am on pins and needles until Monday when all my bloodwork should be in.
How is this possible? I mean to say "I took 90% of your ovary" and then show me labs to prove it.... then to find out this isnt true?
What am I to do? I have to say I now do not believe anything he told me and If I have to have this ovary and cyst removed it certainly wont be him operating on me... not to mention I dont want anymore operations....
I believe the uterine polyps were benign however obgyn never really said so just focused on the cervical cancer (which I have to admit was my fault b/c I had not had a pap since 10 years ago when the left ovary was removed).... also I believe the cervical issues started when I was only 18 as I had a LEEP back then to remove pre cancerous growth. I didnt ever go to obgyn for two reasons. 1. I am an incest survivor and the exams are truly torture for me and reason 2 is every single time I saw an obgyn it was always a surgery or procedure involved.
I am sorry this post is so long but I dont know how better to explain this.
I am very thankful to anyone who reads this and anyone who can either relate or even give me some idea as to how its possible I have an ovary still? A full size ovary at that!

Re: Confusing Sonogram....

Shelly-
You certainly are a mystery woman! WOW that's very perplexing. Maybe another consult would be prudent...and take all you surgical records/ path reports etc. I have never heard of an ovary growing back!Best of luck and keep us posted.

Re: Confusing Sonogram....

I have to totally agree..I would be scheduling a second opinion very soon. Make sure to get all your records/surgery records too. I am having a terrible time getting my records transferred from one of my doctors to a new one so I just went to the hospital and got the records myself!!

Hope it all works out for you..

Re: Confusing Sonogram....

I wouldn't jump to conclusions, but would give your surgeon a chance to see what is going on. Ovararian cysts can come and go very quickly, and these tests are not always what they appear.

For example, after my hysterectomy, I had CT show that I had a normal uterus and ovaries. I was sent to an oncologist/GYN to see what was going on, and it turns out that I had fibroids growing on my cervix and adhesions causing the false reading on the CT scan.

So, before jumping to the awful conclusion that your surgeon didn't do what he said, go back and find out his reaction to the ultrasound results

Also, some of your pain could be from overdoing it. I was not able to sit up straight all day long still at 5 weeks post op without causing a great deal of abdominal pain.

Let us know what your surgeon says.

Re: Confusing Sonogram....

I am sure you are upset, and rightly so, but ovaries can and do regenerate. Please, if he has proof that he removed the ovary, he probably did. There are a few ladies here that have had that happen. I thought it was crazy at first, but do a Google search, it really happens.
