Question about keeping ovaries

Hello Sisters,

Newbie here who has spent almost every evening here reading and reading. I haven't seen this question asked, so here goes:

If I elect to keep my ovaries, will I still get the breast tenderness I always get a couple of days before I start my period? I can always tell when I'm going to begin because when I take off my bra, it hurts like ****! I'm a fluffy sister, and have gi-normous breasts, even then they are fuller and really heavier, I feel like I have to cross my arms underneath and carry them around! I even have to wear sports bras to bed when it's really bad. Will I still have all this if I keep my ovaries, or will it at least not be as bad? Anyone have any experience with this?

Question about keeping ovaries

I think you should ask your doctor that question. I asked him about my pms symptoms and was told that I will still have them as long as I keep my ovaries which I am planning to do if everything looks good. Hope this helps.

Question about keeping ovaries

Funny thing happened with me when I went in for surgery. I was about 10 days away from having my next period and had very tender breasts at the time.

When I awoke from surgery, the tenderness was completely gone! Kept my ovaries too.

So now I'm enjoying my first month with no period and no tender breasts either!

I'll have to let you all know if I notice any changes, but for now, I feel normal and no tenderness at all.

Question about keeping ovaries

Wanna also watch your caffeine intake, that will do it to your breast too. The month after I was suppose to get my period I got like a PMS and then realized I what was going on. Although I had a TAH, I really believe I had some form of PMS.

Question about keeping ovaries

Thanks for all the replies, ladies. Funny about the caffeine mention, I'm trying to wean myself off coffee before I go in for the surgery. I drink it all day at the office, but doubt I'll want to go thru the hassle of making it at home during my recovery, and my DH never drinks it. I certainly don't need the added headaches on top of whatever other aches and pains I will have afterwards either.

I'm adding that question to my list for my pre-op appointment on Wed.

Question about keeping ovaries

I did keep my ovaries. At the time I was hoping the doctor would atleast take my left ovary as it was the one that put me in MAJOR pain each month.

He did agree to take the ovary if necessary. He did say that if the ovary was healthy he would leave it.

Guess what the ovary was healthy. The first couple of months I did have some of my PMS. I had minor twinges, nothing like before. Munchies were still huge and the migraine headaches were less.
After a few months the symptons subsided.

I am now one year post op and have not had twinges of any kind for the last six months, migraines are minimal. Munchies are still there but not like before. Bloating and gas are very little anymore.

I hope all goes well for you.

Breast tenderness

I kept both my ovaries and I have breast tenderness similar to what I experienced prehysterectomy days. I get PMS but no period. It is annoying but overall I am satisfied that I had the surgery.
