22 days isn't enough time to "get into shape". You can walk or some other gentle exercises. It's important not to try anything you're not used to, you don't want to injure something this close to surgery.

Walk. That will at least get your stamina up for the surgery. I am a member of Curves and went three times are week for the few months before my surgery. I think that helped. Since you don't have much time, the walking will probably be your best bet. It will help get you ready to start walking right after your surgery. Good luck!

Ditto on the walking! However, being a bit on the fluffy side - I asked my doctor what I could do to get in better shape for the surgery which was 3 and a half weeks away.

Her reply was "Relax and have fun!" And that's what I did and don't regret one moment of it. Now that surgery is over and all is healed, I'm going to a gym and walking.

Good luck!

I understand about wanting to be in shape. I am trying to lose weight and get in shape before I have surgery. I walk and walk and walk. Walk 2 min. if that is what you have or walk from the car to the store or walk 3 miles. It feels so good just to be doing something and each day it is better. Good luck

hello jtw,
would also agree w/lots of walking! Our surg will be the same date - will be thinking of you as well.
My own plan has been walking as much as possible since they say this is so helpful afterwards. Also trying to eat as healthful as poss & lots of water. I did join a gym recently, but because of heavy bleeding have to play it by ear w/attending. If they have it near you, Planet Fitness has been great - everyone is very helpful & supportive without judging.

I understand your feelings. I have to make myself get out and walk some or get on my elliptical machine, especially on the days that I am tired. But, I usually feel so much better afterwards. Now there are days that I am hurting and I don't try to do anything on those days, so the exercise is in spurts. I don't over-do it, but feel like any little bit will help.

Cutting down food portions, being smart about what your eating, and walking are the three things I did to lose 20 pounds in two months. I was laid up most of the summer with a knee and ankle injury and was completely out of shape. In 22 days it would certainly help.

With 17 days to go - I'm trying to maintain it.

I know it's really hard - I have lived in chronic pain for several years and it's been really difficult, allI want to do most days is lay down, but my husband is helpng me by dropping me off places and my walking home etc.

Do what you can. Know I'm sending you good wishes.
