Do I Have to do a Bowel Prep the Night Before My Hysterectomy? Please Say No...

Hello... the title of this says it all. I just read someone else's post about drinking the magnesium citrate.

I feel like I am just taking info from this site and not contributing anything. I promise to share my knowledge and experience with others as I go through this process though!

Mine was a LAVH.
The only thing I had to do was start liquids after lunch, the day before, an enema before bed, no food or drinks after midnight. That's it for me, thank goodness!

Your doctor will tell you what you need to do. I didn't have to do any sort of bowel prep. There also doesn't seem to be a correlation between surgery type and whether you do a prep. It's usually just doctor preference. If you doc says do it, then do it. If your doctor says don't do it, then don't. I ate normally the day before.

I had to drink that before my TAH but it was not a big deal. I also was on a liquid diet that day. I had never done a bowel prep before but really it was no big deal. I did eat lightly the day before the prep!

My surgeon had me on a clear liquid diet for 48 hours before my surgery, and a bowel prep with magnesium sulfate the night before surgery. It wasn't too bad, really, considering what it was Just follow your surgeon's instructions and try not to worry too much; it will be fine whatever you need to do, I'm sure.

I have been worried about this myself. I don't know why, but the thought of it terrifies me. Hoping and praying I don't have to!

I was told there was no prep for me, just not to eat or drink anything after midnight the night (9hrs) before my surgery. Call your doc to ask, the nurse was able to tell me over the phone when we were setting up my pre op lab dates.

I'm having a TAH in 2 weeks and don't have to. So glad for the news!

Funny thing is, no food or drink after midnight day of, don't take any ibuprofen or aspirin for 2 weeks pre op, and get labs done was all I was told to do. I guess I got off lucky there. Everyone is different do be sure to ask your doc what they prefer.
