Mini periods after TAH? How?

I've seen ladies here mention this before, but now I have to ask - how is it possible to have a "mini-period" when you don't have a uterus any more? I have a vaginal cuff, kept my ovaries. I understand that the ovaries will still (hopefully) produce hormones, but how is it possible to have blood exiting your body from what is basically (as I understand it) a "dead end?" If the vaginal cuff seals off the upper end of the vagina, how is it possible for blood to be there?

Mini periods after TAH? How?

Hi, DebbieG,

No, you won't have mini-periods after a TAH, because a TAH involves removal of the cervix.

Some women, who have kept both their cervix and their ovaries, have "mini-periods." Their cervix bleeds a little during the time when they would have had a period.

In order to have mini-periods, you must have both your cervix and at least one ovary in place.

I hope this helps.

Best wishes,
Helen

Christine, sounds like you need to talk to your doc, whether just for reassurance or just in case it's something that needs to be looked into.
