4 weeks post hysterectomy - swelly belly, hot flashes and discharge

How long does swelly belly last?! I went back to teaching 2 weeks after surgery and I still get it daily. I kept both ovaries, had uterus and cervix removed but have had hot flashes and discharge. Normal? Hope I haven't delayed my recovery from doing too much. Need to get back to my part time job as a cna. Hope all is well with all of you!

Re: Questions

Mine lasted for a few weeks, then gradually got smaller. In the early weeks, if I overdid things it would swell up again and feel hard.

Well done for being back to work so soon.

The hot flashes are completely normal at this stage. After a hysterectomy, the ovaries can go into shock because their main blood supply - the uterine artery - has been severed, and they can take anywhere from a few weeks to a few months to establish a new supply. As I've heard from others, 4 weeks is about when the remaining hormones run out, and symptoms begin. To help with the hot flashes, dress in loose fitting, natural fabrics, and avoid common triggers, including smoking, caffeine, alcohol, overly hot or spicy foods, and rapid temperature changes. Also, if you have no issues with eating soy, then 1-2 daily servings can help with hormonal balance until your ovaries resume normal functioning. Best wishes for your continued recovery!
