Questions before I decide to Hyster
There are a few things in life that I am TERRIFED of:
1. Snakes
2. Frogs
3. Getting my Period Again
4. The drain tube!
I can run from snakes and scream when I see a frog, I can hold my abdomin and cry in pain during my period.
BUT! I have never endured anything like the removal of the drain tube!!!
I had one during a Lapraoscopy in May. I had Retrograde Menstruation and since I had my period my pelvic area and abdomin was full of blood. I had both my tubes removed, and have been on Lupron (6months) and just had my first Depo-Provera shot. And luckily NO PERIODS.
I am however headed to the castle within months. Dr. appts have been scheduled and what not.
What I need to know is, do I have to wait until all these "Ovarie Supressing Drugs" are out of my system? As I am in "Surgical / Drug Enhanced Menopause" the hormonal mess after the surgery will not be a surprise to my already tortured loved ones.
AND will I have to have the DRAIN? I will just about die!! The thought of that scares the heck out of me! When he pulled it out the first time I tell you I must have cursed in 4 different languages at the same time!
Please offer some insight!!!
Thanks Stacy

Questions before I decide to Hyster
Hi,
Very few women have drains after this surgery. It might depend on the type of procedure you are having. I guess only your doctor could tell you for sure, so it might be best to give him or her a call.

Questions before I decide to Hyster
Hi Seeya,
I have to say, while I actually like snakes and frogs, I too share your terror of drain tubes. I too had surgery a few years ago that involved a drain tube. I didn't know it was there and got curious about what my incision looked like under all the bandages. Well, I peaked. Boy, was I surprised at seeing a tube sticking out of my abdomen. I nearly barfed and passed out at the same time. And yes, having it taken out was not fun. At all. I have a TAH/BSO sceduled 12/5 and I keep telling everyone the will be w/ me in the hospital to not let me peak under my bandages, no matter how curious I get, even if I have to be put in restraints, I'm not allowed to look. I just don't want to know. LOL.

I had a TAH/BSO and didn't have any drain tubes. Try not to worry about it.

Questions before I decide to Hyster
Thanks for the input! Considering all that a TAH/BSO (I say BSO even though I already lost both tubes to the ENDO Monsters) entails, I am terrified of the drain! LOL..
I am not worried about anestesia or the actual surgery, I am horribly terrifed of the drain!
I usually get anxious, nervous and all that prior to a procedure or surgery, but I have to say when I had my Lapraoscopy in May I was calm, too calm for me.
I knew there was something wrong, the Dr. didn't think he would find much but he did! So I guess I was at peace this time because I KNEW!
Just as I know now that I must get rid of what is left. I can't keep taking these drugs and dealing with the side effects.
Like I said, what is the point of taking these meds to surpess the ovaries, just take em out!
I have been extremely exhausted, not tired, exhausted! and I know it is a side effect of the Depo-Provera. The other night, around 6:30pm, I went to pick my daughter up from practice and while waiting at the light I actually FELL ASLEEP! The horn honking startled me! I don't even want to think about what could of happened.
The inability to sleep for more than 1-2 hours at a time is taking its toll on me. So now, I will not drive or drive alone unless absolutely necessary.
Just another interference with daily life that this Endo Monster has created.

Questions before I decide to Hyster
I had the drainage tubes with bulbs attached to me, I nearly slugged my doctor when he said he was taking it out on day 3, he said it wouldnt hurt at all, i have a pretty high pain tolerance.. i never yelled once during hours and hours of painful labors one with no pain meds and i tore internally and externelly but i screamed when he ripped the drains out!
It was horrible. for some reason my psychy went crazy about it and i kept reliving it in dreams for about 3 weeks after surgery.
For me though i guess i am a rare.. it felt like he was ripping my intestines out, i cant explain why. all I know is that he said it wouldnt hurt and thought i was nuts when it did.
So i understand when you say it hurt you. and i sympathize.
Ask your doc if you will have one. i thought (until reading other posts that most dont get them) that everyone did. maybe you wont.
Good Luck!
