how long do we have to wait for the big O?

Hey, I know this sounds really dumb seeing how it hasn't even been 2 weeks but how long till my DH and I can have outercourse? I think either the patch on my back is testosterone not estrogen(LOL) or something but I really need to have some fun w/ my DH. Maybe it is the swelling down there I don't know but if anyone knows when we can pet I would gladly appreciate it.

Hi Janelle!

That's not a dumb question. It's a question that is asked a lot on this site.

The only person who can give you the right answer to your question is your own doctor. Your Sisters can reply to say when their doctors gave that clearance but you really need to call your own doctor to find out if outercourse is okay for you at this point in your recovery. There's no need to be embarrassed to call to ask. It's a question they hear all the time as it's natural for you to want to resume intimacy of some sort until you're given the final clearance for intercourse.

Here's some information to read which will help explain the libido you're experiencing as well as why it's important to get clearance from the doctor:

Sex - Do I Really Have to Wait Six Weeks?

Sex - Post-Op Libido and Sexual Activities

Post-Op Sex Checkpoint

Best wishes as your healing continues!

Janelle,
I too crave "fun" with my DH after surgery. I agree that patch has something to do with it!! At 2 weeks post-op we went "exploring" and the big O was fantastic! I guess I should have asked the Dr. for permission, but nothing bad happened (it was all good!!! )! I go in for my 6 week checkup next week and can't wait to hear whether or not we can have intercourse yet.
As far as the patch goes, I think my hormones were down the toilet before my TAH because I NEVER wanted sex. Now that all of my parts are gone & I have the patch, I have serious sex drive. I think my uterus/ovaries had been a problem for much longer than I thought, because I feel better than I have in quite a few years!
Best of luck to you and your recovery! It's good to hear that there are other people who have done as well as I have through all of this!

I agree w/ the part about not wanting sex before. I can't believe how it has changed! Maybe it has to do w/ how well he took care of me when I needed him that is such a turn on now? I am not complaining. LOL Thanks for the advice.
