Well I Made It

Just a short note. I returned home today from my stay at the hospital.

Just to show that things don't always turn out as you think:

1. Instead of having one fibroid, my surgeon found that my uterous was grossly enlarged and full of fibroids. On top of that, a fibroid had grown outside my uterous and and worked itself through the tendon and ligaments in my back which lead to my legs. Because it did not appear "normal", my doctor sent it and another to a pathologist. Both samples came back as benign (praise God)!!

2. I had made the decision to have my ovaries removed, but had some hesitation in that. Because my ovaries were perfectly healthy, he left them in so I would not have to go through hormone therapy.

3. I only had to have pain medication for the first few days, but because of problems with my temperature spiking once or twice a day with no evidence of infection anywhere, I had to have antibiotics by IV for 4 days and had to stay an additional 3 days in the hospital.

In the final analysis, I feel great, my doctor can not believe how well my incision looks and how I am not having any pain outside of some light discomfort when I sit up too long, and I am finally home.

I want to thank all the sister who have posted their experiences and suggestions to this website. It helped me to be prepared for what would happen and enabled me to ask questions when I needed. I would encourage anyone to ask questions of the ladies of this site, no matter how small or large. Knowledge is a powerful tool in recovery.
