Knee Pain 4 weeks post-op?

Hello All,

I had a TAH on 9/19/05.

I am doing well in my recovery and have been taking short walks outside, increasing the distance every week.
Am now about up to 10 blocks or so twice a day and feel it is helping alot in me regaining my strength.

I have noticed over the last several days that I am having pain in both knees.

I wondered if anyone else was experiencing this. I have thought that maybe it was due to lack of activity over the first week or maybe even straining the knees to take away from having to use my abdominal muscles.

Sweet Pea in SC
TAH w/BSO on 9/19/05. Vertical incision for large fibroid uterus weighing 1238 gms. Endo and Adeno also found. On Vivellle Dot for HRT.

Knee Pain 4 weeks post-op?

Hi Sweet Pea,
How are your knees doing? The knees hurting because of compensating for the abdominal muscles or lack thereof. I have had pain in various places before in muscles that I don't use as much as I did before the surgery. In a few days the pain goes away though. I noticed you have been walking quite a bit. To me 10 blocks is quite a bit but I probably am not as active as you are either.
I hope it gets better soon.

Knee Pain 4 weeks post-op?

Hi Sweet Pea,
I'm having the exact same problems. I have also been going on walks, but I've noticed my knees are hurting more. Pre-surgery, I'd occasionally have where my knee hurt, but not too often, nothing big. Now though almost daily it has hurt. It must be for compensating even though we don't realize it.

Knee Pain 4 weeks post-op?

Since my surgery, I've been bending with my knees as much as possible rather than bending over. Perhaps you have done the same, which could explain your knee pain. Also, if you didn't do much walking pre-op, that may account for it as well. Be sure you wear sneakers or shoes that have good cushioning soles when you do your walking -- that will help act as shock absorbers for your knees.
