Bladder and Bowel concerns...

I am having some concerns and I don't know if it's just going to take time and healing or if it's something more. So I had scar tissue that was connecting my uterus to my bladder, and I had adhesions of some sort on my bowel that I think they said were also connected to my uterus (does that sound right?). It will be three weeks tomorrow since my surgery.

Concerns are...as soon as my bladder even partially fills up, it's uncomfortable and sometimes really painful. I can't wait, i have to go to the restroom immediately. Even in the middle of the night. And it's painful while i'm going. But not bladder infection painful. It's like a stabbing pain in my abdomen. And then there's the bowel function...so not back to normal yet and also painful every time I go. Does this sound normal???

Lastly, there is one spot right next to my incision where i can feel something and it's not comfortable. it pinches and feels pointy under my skin. Could that be a stitch? it's hard to explain what it feels like. And when I just slightly feel/push around on it, it hurts (sharp). Thoughts?

Oh, one more thing. I'm on a hormone patch. Just started it a week ago. I'm thankful that it has relieved a good portion of the hot flashes. However, the last two days I found myself dizzy and almost feeling like i was going to black out at times. I recognized that despite how much I'm drinking that I was dehydrated. Seems like the patch could have me needing to consume even more fluids!

Re: Bladder and Bowel concerns...

Hi butterfly,

What kind of hyst did you have -- TAH, Da Vinci, laparoscopic? Just curious -- you didn't list it but it makes a difference to your post-op experience.

I think your bowel situation and bladder situation are pretty normal for 3 weeks or so out. For 8 weeks or so after my TAH it really hurt to go #2 or even to pass gas! But eventually it eased up. It hurts considerably less if you can stay regular and loose. Your comment about being dehydrated leads me to wonder whether this is part of the trouble with your bowels? Try pushing fluids and yes, you could even try drinking prune juice (mix it with water, it tastes better. That stuff works miracles). It could make a huge difference.

I too had poky things under my skin next to my TAH incision. I also thought they were stitches. They weren't serious. But check with the doc if you have concerns about it.

Re: Bladder and Bowel concerns...

Hi,
I am only 6 days post op, my bladder seems to be healing and i am pretty much back to normal however my bowel is really painful. It was nice to see that i am not the only one as i was worried that there was something wrong. My doctor never warned me about this part.
I was given laxatives to take but they made the cramping worse so i have now gone on to the prune juice, i actually like the taste. xx

Re: Bladder and Bowel concerns...

My bladder is definitely improving at 6 wks post op. not normal but improving!!

Bowels-digestion- post food swelly belly isn't great but my uterus was stuck to my bowels. Am thinking its swelling and trauma.....6 wks feels like forever but it's really not in the grand scheme of things .

Hang in there!

Re: Bladder and Bowel concerns...

Hi ladies. Thank you for the responses i have gotten. First, yes, i did have a TAH so i know healing will take longer. Its just so hard because i feel good some days but then overdo it. I did go to my doctor. The pokey thing is where some stitch knots are. So that will start dissolving in 3 more weeks.

She sent my urine off to be cultured to make sure i don't have a bladder infection. Went ahead and started me on antibiotics just in case because i had to go out of town. My grandfather passed away, funeral is Tuesday.

She is a little concerned about the bowel stuff. Keeping an eye on it. I have another follow up on the 28th. Oh, and she said the dehydration might be my body adjusting to the hormones along with still healing.

Thank you again. I will give another update later. Blessings.
