Re: Pain Prior to Hysterectomy (cannot take asprin or ibuprofen 2 weeks before surgery; suggestions on handling pain?)

I can so empathize, as I was in enormous pain with my adenomyosis. Debilitating cramps that had me up all night, and Tylenol did nothing.

My doctor never told me to stop taking Advil, etc., so I kept taking it. 5 days prior to surgery, I read it online, and I called their office, and they said "oh yeah, you need to stop that." So I asked them how I was supposed to get through the next 4 days, and they would only allow me Tylenol. I spent that weekend in the most enormous pain I ever remember. I had to just gut it out. The only thing that helped was sleeping upright. I set up all my pillows so that I could sleep basically sitting up with a bunch of pillows around me, which took the pressure off my uterus.

They allowed me to go into surgery, even though I had taken Advil up until 5 days prior. I did lose a ton of blood and had to stay overnight to get transfusions (took 4 hours). I'm convinced that I did that to myself.

I recently had a couple of other surgeries (bunionectomy and some plastic surgery), and I absolutely avoided all of these things, as I don't want to go through that again.
