bladder injury

Hi Free,
I guess it's that season for the flu. We all had it the past few weeks too. Not fun! One thing I have learned with this is to have patience. I lost the entire month of Sept. with my recovery. My place of employment fired me 2 weeks before my surgery. I had missed a lot of time because of not feeling well. So right now I am just taking it easy getting back into the norm right now. I think I will get a coy of my surgery report also. How is your bladder doing now? Let me know next week how things go.
I'll be thinking about you.

bladder injury

Hi Ladies,

My LAVH was on July 18 and during the surgery the doctor nicked my bladder...he told me that he had a difficult time with the surgery due to scar tissue and adenomyosis.

Well, after surgery, the catheter was removed and I had a hard time peeing...everytime I tried, I felt very nauseous, so after a day they put it back in, and blood came out! To see the faces on the nurses was scary to say the least. While they didn't say anything, they immediatly called my surgeon back in who was in and out for that day and the next to see what was going on. Finally had a CT scan where it was discovered that my bladder was nicked. The surgeon took full (and apologetic) responsibilty immediately. I had surgery two days after the hyst 10:00 at night, returned to my room at 1 a.m. He made a 7" vertical incision (so much for the laproscopic incisions..LOL) and I had a jp tube on the left side, and a drain coming from my bladder out through my stomach attached to a bag on my right side.

Long story shortened, I was in the hopsital for 8 days. The jp drain came out the day before I was released, and I had the drain bag for a week after the surgery.

Today (14 weeks post op) I'm feeling fine (except that I am very, very tired). I've had 2 UTI's, and a yeast infection. Since I also had the bladder sling, I have a much different sensation when I pee. Can't totally explain it, but I don't go with as much force as I used to, and I don't feel like I empty my bladder completely. I go to the urologist on Oct 30 for a follow up - he'll be sure to hear about my woes!!

Anyway, I'm back in the classroom, working full time, and going to graduate school as well. Unfortunately, I have been put on antidepressants (never took them before) to help me through, I was such a crybaby prior to taking the meds. Doc was so sympathetic, he said "Look, you signed up for what should have been a simple hysterectomy, and ended up in a life threatening situation." Not what I wanted to hear, but to have my feelings justified helped immensly!

OK, sorry this post is so long, but I wanted to let all of you know that things do get better. It just takes time and lots of patience. Good luck with your recoveries!
