Hi everybody,

I just wanted to tell all of you Thank you for this site, it is wonderful. I have been coming here almost daily for a few months. All my questions have usually been answered as soon as I think of them. I just have one question, have any of you had to go thru a competentcy exam before having your hysterectomy. My doctor is worried about my age and having this done. But sisters he is a man and bleeding constantly for over a year is horrendous! Thanks again.

Hi Serenity Welcome to Hyster Sisters. You are absolutely right: this IS a wonderful site.

Regarding a competency test, I didn't have to go through one, considering I was 44 when I scheduled my hyst. I know that some doctors are reluctant to perform hysts when very young women are involved and that some insurance companies are equally reluctant to approve the procedures.

You're the only one who knows how much your symptoms affect your health and your quality of life. You might also want to check into the Hysterectomy Options and Alternatives message board, where you'll find ladies looking for alternatives to this irreversable surgery.
