babywearing after total abdominal hysterectomy (Children mentioned)

I just had an emergency hysterectomy three weeks postpartum. My little one is a month old now and I'd love to get back to carrying him in a wrap or sling. I'm only a week into my recovery, but dr has cleared me to lift up to 20 lbs, so picking up baby is not a problem. His weight combined with the weight of the carseat will be too much, though, so babywearing will be a necessity once I start getting out a little more.

Anyone's experiences caring for a newborn immediately after abdominal surgery would be a great help! Favorite ways to hold and carry baby? How soon you felt up to carrying baby?

I cant answer about baby carrying post hysterectomy I can only answer post c-section and 1 year later having an open tubaligation and carrying my 1 year old. I wore my baby in a sling after my csection everywhere!!!! One thing that helped me though was having a belly wrap. Ask your doctor to be 100% but it should be ok. Good luck!

thanks ladyd. My Dr is very confident in my recovery abilities--which is a good thing since the baby definitely keeps me on my toes! It seems like as long as I keep the wrap tied up high on my waist, away from the incision, we'll be fine. It's a bit tricky getting him in and out of the wrap without help, but it's better than picking him up and putting him down all day!

I would suggest the binders they have on this site. I love mine & with you having to care for an infant & carry them I would say it would be extremely helpful to you.
