LAVH scheduled - is it the right thing?

I have a LAVH scheduled for July 11, 2001. My doctor has told me I can choose to either keep or remove my cervix. My problem is from the vaginal birth of my twins almost 12 years ago. Apparently an internal tear has caused scarring that has adhered my cervix to the uterine wall, which causes no mobility in the cervix. This causes some menstrual pain, but extreme discomfort if I wear tampons. With two 11 year old boys wanting to ski, swim etc. that can be a problem.

Don't know if this is causing sexual frustration, or just too tired to enjoy it anymore.

Some of my friends say their hyster was the best thing they ever did. Others caution problems with blood flow to the cervix and ovaries causing dryness, hormonal imbalance, etc. and others caution against weight gain.

My problem is not unbearable at this point, but I wonder if some abdominal pain that I have attributed to gastro problems is really the "locked" cervix.

Anyone post LAVH have any advice?

Thanks.

LAVH scheduled - is it the right thing?

I had a TLH and don't miss my cervix at all. It was a little tender anyway and now it's not there to bump into. There's plenty of lubrication left. I kept my ovaries and am on just a teeny bit of Vagifem because I got a little "thin-skinned" down there after a few weeks. But it's fine now. I wouldn't take my cervix back with green stamps. Some women report a difference in orgasm and some don't. Some say it's different but they don't care. Don't know how you would tell whether it's the uterus or the cervix, though, that makes the difference.

If you have LAVH, you can keep your cervix? That's news to me. Normally I understand the uterus exits through the vagina and the cervix has to go. Or would you be having a different procedure then, maybe totally laparoscopic or abdominal?

Hysteritaville is kind of a healthy lifestyles forum. You might get more responses to this post on the Pre-op or Options and Alternatives forum. Would you like it moved to one of those?

Good luck with your decision. Take your time.

Yes - if more responses would come from a different location, then I would like for it to be moved. Can you tell me how?

Also, I had not heard that the cervix could not be done through LAVH until I began looking at your site. I also have a problem some times with the bumping into situation. After my twins, it seems to have dropped, which I initially thought was my problem.

Thanks for your response.

LAVH scheduled - is it the right thing?

Here are a couple more threads you could look at:

and

If this doesn't help, let me know and we can try copying your post to the pre-op or post-op board to see if more LAVH sisters show up.

LAVH scheduled - is it the right thing?

Denise,

I wonder if we should move this to pre - op.

One thing that concerns me, as I read through the various message boards, is the number of women who are virtually bleeding to death, and they still try to avoid the surgery.

My MD has indicated that this surgery is no big deal, and recovery will be a couple of weeks. However, if it is really no big deal, then why are so many trying to avoid it?

I am scheduled for July 11, and at this point plan to go forward. My family is supportive, but some friends have questioned.

Thanks.
