Incision - still 1/8" open but shallow in middle part - Normal?
Will be 2 weeks PO on in two days. Had staples out 5 days ago and still have steri-strips although they are coming loose. Still having continual leakage issues from seroma, but not as heavy now.
Under the steri-strips in middle part of incision, I can see that the skin on either side of incision is not touching like it is on top and bottom. It's still separated about 1/8" for about 2-3 inches. But doesn't look deep at all, very shallow, just not coming together closely like top and bottom are.
Is this normal? Should I put those Curad No Scar tapes on when the steristrips come off so it pulls the sides together? The area is not deep enough to pack. What else should I do?
Don't have another appt. for 6 weeks as doctor said all looked normal last week when he took staples out. Put me on antibiotic for 7 days for seroma just as precaution.
These boards are fantastic. Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

Incision - still 1/8" open but shallow in middle part - Normal?
Funny how all doctors are different.
Been 3 weeks yesterday since the operation.
One area is still slightly open but im steri stripped together again.
She said it will fill in with growth. Had some oozing last weekends but that was a cat issue
Doctor said to just keep it clean with soap and water, pat dry.
I further keep it dry with a hair dryer after a shower.
Id just get more strip for those that fall off.
I also now have a abdominal binder that helps me from feeling like I coming apart. Make sure it is big on you and you can adjust down.
But I go back again on the 29th.
(That will be 3 visits with my doctor)

Incision - still 1/8" open but shallow in middle part - Normal?
Thanks so much. Ended up calling doctor on call after DH insisted and doc said "no, it's not normal for incision to separate, but it's probably due to a build up of fluid under that area and it's pushing its way out. Just clean with warm water and antibacterial soap and pat dry. If still concerned on Monday, call office and nurse will take a look at it."
What I forgot to ask him was what can I do or not do to keep it from opening up any more? I have not been lifting but have been bending over to pick up things I've dropped, empty dishwasher, bent over sitting, etc. Should I just lie flat on my back all the time, except when using the bathroom and walking every now and then?
Also forgot to ask him if I can put fresh steri-strips on when these come off to help keep it from separating? And do drugstores stock them?

OK, sorry, a bit out of it I guess-just saw you said replacement steri-strips are ok. And my original post was wrong - gaps are 1/4" to 1/2" when standing up, less when laying down. I guess I'm just panicked a bit cause when staples came out and steri-strips went on, it was totally closed. Now 5 days later, it's open in spots and I'm terrified it'll open wider and more between now (Sat.) and Monday when I can try and get in to see nurse

I have been dealing with a wound that developed complications after my staples were removed. It has been a royal pain to have a visiting nurse come every day for almost 3 weeks now and have to worry about the whole thing. BUT I do know that lying on your back for most of the day is not the best idea. I was told by my nurse and surgeon to walk as much as I can. (within reason and at a comfortable pace) Its excellent for healing and will not cause it to open up.
Wishing you a speedy recovery!

stores have them, but Id call again monday to be sure.
I cant believe you dont go back for 6 weeks.
Id stop bending. Get yourself one of those reachers to pick things up.
Lay around as much as you can to help the healing.
Sitting bothers me, but I think the worse is trying to get up. I think that is where the separation came form with me.

See your dr. It is not normal. Lay down much as you can.
Stop lift things. It will cause pull and pain.
