9 days post Total Vaginal Hysterectomy - yeast infection

Hi everyone -

I am 9 days post vaginal hysterectomy. I had a yeast infection going into the surgery because I was on antibiotics for a sinus infection. Well, add to that the in-hospital antibiotics and now I still have the yeast infection, despite a lot of probiotics.

Diflucan has historically messed up my stomach, so I've been sticking with creams for years. The Dr. on call said it would be safe for me to gently use the monistat 7 cream.

Scared. Do you think this is ok? I guess I should trust what the Dr on call said, but it's not my usual GYN/surgeon so I'm nervous. I'm thinking of sending the plunger in only a little bit and squirt vs fully inserting the plunger.

Thanks!!

Re: 9 days post Total Vaginal Hysterectomy - yeast infection

It's a good question, sister, that I'll answer with another question: Are you/they sure it's a yeast infection? I had lots of dryness post-op that mimicked yeast. I ask because, though my surgery was TAH, I certainly wouldn't have been comfortable inserting the plunger/applicator. I don't know how great your intolerance of Diflucan is but… is it possible that it might be more comfortable than the plunger?
