Pre-op appointment today

I had my pre-op appointment today and found out that I don't have to do a bowel prep after all. I am going to call the doctor to ask him before just to make sure. I had my blood drawn and spoke to the "A" team. The nurse was really nice I talked to and she told me that I will be getting up the next morning and I got really upset that it wouldn't even be 24 hours after surgery and I told her about my horrible expierence with my c-section. I literally screamed to move. The pain meds did not help at all. She told me that the docs and nurses are much better now about pain meds. I am still really nervous about it though.
Ok here is my question. When we were going over the doctors orders she told me that no meds were ordered. Just an IV to be started. How do you get the relaxing medication? Do you have to ask for it? I know that I am going to be a wreck. Surgery isn't scheduled until 2:30 in the afternoon and I will be crazy by that time. Thanks for all of the support and I just want to get it over with.

My bit of info

Hi! I'm in the same boat with the bowel prep--kind of freaked me out a bit. I asked twice about it since he didn't order it. I guess some docs just don't do it
I've had 7 other surgeries with anesthesia, and from what I've seen, the relaxing medicine is a given. Maybe she meant that they didn't order any antibiotics or anything like that to be given prior to the IV? Wouldn't hurt to call them up and ask, just for you own piece of mind.
The getting up the next day is always uncomfortable, but necessary. Got to get those insides (what's left, at least! hehe) moving again!
And don't be shy about asking for more or different pain medicine if you need it. My nurse told me that they have a whole list of meds I can get(for itching, nausea, pain)...they just have to wait for me to ask.
Hope you get some good answers!

Pre-op appointment today

Thanks. My confusion on the bowel prep was they were going be looking at my colon and if it needed any repair work then they wouldn't be able to do any of it without the bowel prep. The nurse told me to bring a book because I would be bored. The doctor didn't order any meds at all just for an IV to be started. I am getting really scared now. I am going to call him on Thursday because he is not in tomorrow.

Thanks for the support!

Hi Rose, I will tell you that the relaxing med "happy medicine" is given in your IV. I got everything in my IV. That made it so much easier. I was amazed at all the stuff I was getting and it was all going in the IV. Please don't worry - they won't let you be in pain. Lots of luck to you and prayers are headed your way.
