zoloft 2 wks out of the month??

My gyno prescribed Zoloft and said that i could take it for 2 weeks out of the month during my most challenging time of the month, basically when I get PMS symptoms and depression. She said I could take half a pill for one week and then a whole pill for another week. Has anyone ever heard of this or experienced this? What are you thoughts? I take women to women program supplements for 4 months, use estrogen cream for almost a month now, and I use emerita progest. cream. But my breasts hurt, my pms week was filled with anxiety and insomnia (took xanax to sleep), I feel anger a lot or lethargy. Basically I feel ups and downs that affect my ability to stay sane. I have taken an antidepressant before for a year but it made me feel dull and lifeless although I didn't fixate on my thoughts as much, I took Citalopram/generic Celexa. I like the idea of 2 weeks out of the month because I just do not like the idea of taking a pill on a regular basis to monitor my moods.

Re: zoloft 2 wks out of the month??

I've been on zoloft for over a year for post partum depression. It works great for me. I've never heard of taking it two weeks on and then two weeks off like that. It doesn't make sense to me since you need to ease into it (start at 50 mg, build to 100 then 150 etc.). It seems like every time you get your body used to it you will take it away only to reintroduce again two weeks later. Based on how my body reacts to new meds, i know that I would not be able to tolerate th side effects of starting and stopping like that. Good luck!

That's what I thought that you have to take it consistently for it to be effective.

Re: zoloft 2 wks out of the month??

Love zoloft. It is unique in really working well for women with mood disorders directly associated with hormones. So post partum depression pms etc. I went on it after my 4th cause I just couldn't quite get my hormones regulated postpartum. It has worked wonderfully. My dr recomended it as a shorter term solution ( a year). Side effects for me have been lowere labido and headaches if I don't take my pill on time. Hope you find something that works.
