Preparing for hysterectomy on 5/3

Hi my name is Tara, I am scheduled to have a da Vinci hysterectomy on May 3rd. My main concern is the possibility of an abdominal hysterectomy being that I've had three C-sections. I am so grateful for this site!! I was at a lost when I heard the statement " we recommend a total hysterectomy."

Re: Preparing for hysterectomy on 5/3

Try not to add to your anxiety by stressing over whether or not it will be abdominal. I had abdominal and had a very easy smooth recovery. Never took any narcotics, was up comfortably walking around the day of my surgery, only spent one night in the hospital and was back at work in 3 weeks. It does not have to be a long difficult recovery!

Preparing for hysterectomy on 5/3

Good morning, Tara. My surgeon had also mentioned the possibility that my planned laparoscopic surgery might be converted to an abdominal procedure, because of the size of my fibroids, but fortunately, that didn't happen. I would recommend speaking to your surgeon, asking him under what circumstances would he convert, and what's the probability of that happening - ideally, it should be no more than 5%. Best wishes for your upcoming surgery!

Re: Preparing for hysterectomy on 5/3

My doc had also mentioned the possibility of converting from TLH to abdominal because my fibroids were rather large. He had also mentioned the possibility, he might be able to complete most of it laparoscopically and have a smaller bikini incision cut which would heal in the same timeframe as TLH (hybrid). I did have the hybrid. They'll know better when they are in there.

Talk to your doc about what your chances are of it staying laparoscopic. Don't worry about it too much. Keep in mind that their ultimate goal is to complete the surgery with your health and safety in mind.

On your upcoming surgery.

Preparing for hysterectomy on 5/3

Hi Tara. I'm heading in tomorrow too. I'm having abdominal surgery but I'm ok about it. At least when I heal from the surgery it will be all over, please God. I have endo and I'm losing a week each month through pain and exhaustion. Hopefully it'll all go to plan for you.
