Is this typical before surgery?

Hello All;

The night before surgery on Monday I have to take antibiotics..4/500mg of Metronidazole. 2000mg seems like ALOT of antibiotic...

Also, my blood pressure has been very high recently. I am worried that this may prevent them from doing the surgery. Today it was 152/103. I just want to get this over with and I don't want anything to prevent that from happening. This is so important to me.

Any ideas or advice anyone?

Is this typical before surgery?

2000 mg is a loading dose. Probably given as a prophylactic I would imagine. Better safe than sorry, the best sterilization of surgical instruments, rigorous infection control procedures...cannot always prevent some little bacteria from flying around in the air. Plus if you have been on immunosupressants they normally try to up your ability to fight infection. I'm on methotrexate and I will have to go off of it (again-ARGH) before my surgery.
Your bp may be up due to nerves, caffeine, chocolate, you name it. Unless you chronically are hypertensive maybe your surgeon will overlook it as simply pre-op jitters. Stop checking it and that may bring it down as well, lol.

Is this typical before surgery?

I was told at my pre-admit that they will be giving me an antibiotic thru the IV once I arrive at the hospital. I think sometimes they like to be safe rather than sorry. I am a "fluffy" lady and run a greater risk for infection so I actually asked the GYN about antibiotics at my appointment.

Hope all goes well for you on Monday. I am going in on Monday as well.

LOL..I know I need to stop checking my BP..I am so neurotic. I checked it again last night. I guess it is because it was up when I had my pre-op visit and they had said then that it was elevated at 140/98 and that if it was still elevated they may not do the surgery. Now here it is even higher..I don't want ANYTHING to prevent this from happening.
