Sleeping on side?
I am 4 weeks post-op now but have an opening where my incision busted. (Being treated twice a day). so far I have only slept on my back (with 2 pillows on my tummy to keep the cat off). But I can only lay on my back so long and then I wake up and can't get comfortable.
Has anyone tried sleeping on your side? Would that hurt my "open incision"?
thanks for your thoughts.

Sleeping on side?
Hello, Seacreature!
I had a TAH and am a side-sleeper also. Thankfully, I didn't have any problems with my incision, but I wasn't comfortable on my side until about weeks 5-6. It just seemed to have a "pulling" feeling prior to then. I tried all sorts of pillows for support, but it still wasn't comfortable. I was beginning to think I would be stuck on my back forever, then almost overnight, all was back to normal.
While I was on my back, what really helped me was using one of those large microbead pillows on either side. It gave my arms support and I was much more comfy.
I don't know if sleeping on your side will hurt your open incision, but anything that causes discomfort may be a sign that it's just not ready yet.
Best wishes!

Sleeping on side?
I'm a side sleeper too but found it hurt to sleep on my side. It's not so bad now, using pillows to sleep with my back supported and my tummy supported on a pillow lying sideways.

Sleeping on side?
I, too, am a side sleeper. I am just under 4 wks post-op and just began to experiment with sleeping on my side. I use a body pillow between my legs and my squishy pillow tucked in the side of my belly. But I still can't sleep like that the entire night, it gets a little uncomfortable, feels like everything is moving to one side . So, I still end up on my back. I had an abdominal surgery 10 yrs ago, and 3 inches of my 5 inch incision opened... until it healed, I slept on my back, only because I feared that it would make it open more.

Sleeping on side?
My incision opened too almost two weeks after my operation. I slept with a lot of pillows and was at the half way point of between my back and side.

Sleeping on side?
While I had to adjust to sleeping on my back after surgery, I found it was very helpful to put a pillow under my legs...right about under my knees. I am a stomach/side sleeper--it was hard to adjust during recovery. But the pillow under the knees really helped in getting comfortable on my back; I find that I sleep like that now upon occasion. Helpful when my back is hurting, or I have a particular bad case of swelly belly!

Sleeping on side?
I have been sleeping on my side since day 1! I use a body pillow to help support my stomach. I can only sleep on my back for so long, but the pillow under my knees does help. You might try to wear support panties if your incision feel pulled when your on your side. I just stuff a pillow there for my belly to rest on. Hopefully soon the swelling will go down and I won't need its own pillow

Sleeping on side?
I am finding these tips really helpful, because I have always been a side-sleeper but that doesn't feel comfortable right now. I am getting tired of sleeping on my back, though, so maybe I'll try to find a body pillow online.

Aha, I was just about to do a search on this site for advice about cats in bed & swollen/sore bellies. I have been staying with my dad to recuperate, but I am moving back home tomorrow and I have three cats. Only one of them likes to lay his head on my belly, the other two prefer my legs. I am thinking that to be on the safe side I should protect myself with pillows for a while, though, as one cat has no qualms about using me as a stepping stone.
