sensitive skin
I am 2 weeks post op. Had total hysterectomy. Just the last couple of days I have noticed extreme sensitive skin along my lower stomach and the creases of my legs and upper thigh areas. It hurts to even have clothing or a sheet to rest on it. I don't see my Dr. till Dec. 28th to talk about chemo and radiation. Wondered if any of you have experienced this. Thank you.

Re: sensitive skin
I experienced that at about 10 days post op. I was at the point that I was getting dressed every morning but took a few steps back to wearing only a night gown and it hurt to even have my night gown touch it. I even developed a rash on my abdomen. I did call my doctor and was prescribed a cream to use and after a few days it did take care of the rash. I would call your doctor to see if they can give you something to relieve it.

Re: sensitive skin
I have had a rash since my LAVH on 12/11. It is from an inch above my belly button to the top of my inner thighs. I was told it was a sensitivity to the surgical wash. Oddly enough, I don't have it around where my incisions were covered. It is really itchy. Taking a benadryl does help a bit though. I just try not to scratch it!
What cream were you prescribed?

Re: sensitive skin
I don't know anything about this cream other than it worked for me. The name on the tube is clotrimazole/betamethasone and I used it twice a day. It stopped the itching as well as the rash I developed. I have had what I believe is the same rash come back periodically over the past month and it has always stopped the itching. In the past 10 days I have not had to use the cream, so I believe I may be past that stage. Good luck to both of you.

Re: sensitive skin
While an rx cream may help, I'd also recommend unscented everything until you get it sorted out. Even laundry soap...I use All Free & Clear or Dreft. Eucerin, Cerave, and Cetaphil are excellent for sensitive skin. You may even want to try Aquaphor (it's like Vaseline) to protect your skin like a barrier when you wear clothes. For cleansing, plain Dial soap or Dove unscented work well.
Can you tell I've spent a lifetime with sensitive skin?

Re: sensitive skin
While unscented everything is a good idea, I couldn't wait for that to take effect. The itching and burning was so severe I needed relief quicker than that would have given me. Our skin has been exposed to many unfamiliar substances during our procedures, so who knows how we will react. My release directions from the hospital directed me to call if I developed a rash. But with each of us, our reactions, recoveries, doctors and directions are different. Whatever makes you most comfortable - do it.

Re: sensitive skin
I agree f3tch...it could be fungal, even. Who knows!! But using all unscented stuff will at least not make the skin angrier.

sensitive skin
Hello! The issue of sensitive skin was my number one complaint after my TAH on November 14th. I just couldn't stand it. It felt exactly as you described. Somewhere around week 3 it eased up. Week 4 was better and now I'm in week 5. I'm still at war with underwear but my coping abilities are so much better now that the skin has calmed down. I hope my timeline gives you some positive thoughts. It DOES go away.
My saving grace clothes-wise has been "No Nonsense" cotton "leggings" (the regular ones..not the "tights"). The waistband is not at all tight. In fact, I joke that if I were buying them to actually be tight I would be disappointed but as it is I'm overjoyed that the band is a bit useless. I bought them at Kroger. About $14. I wear them with boots and dresses to work. To hell with underwear. Anyway...this little discovery helped me through my painful skin period. Hope you are feeling better soon!
