Re: Stitches vs Staples for abdominal hysterectomy incision

I didn't have staples or any external sutures either so my scar is a thin little seam. If you don't want staples it's possible not to have staples. I wouldn't want a doc who always does staples to do something different for me though. The way he usually does it is the way he is most experienced in doing it.

Just my own opinion and I do understand you have history with this doctor. That said for goodness sake get another opinion! This is a major surgery with choices only you will have to live with for the rest of your life.

I tell you I would not want to feel bullied or my questions not answered. A lot can happen after you are under. You want to trust that your surgeon is doing the best for you, not him.

I had stitches that dissolved on their own & I didn't have to worry about about getting staples or stitches out. I didn't have a choice it's what my dr used

Re: Stitches vs Staples for abdominal hysterectomy incision

I didn't even ask if I was getting staples. I woke up and there they were. I had 33 of them and I am small. They didn't hurt coming out. The holes of the staples were red and could be seen for about 8'weeks and now they have completely disappeared. The incision scar is still there and gets red and grows as my belly swells. It was difficult sitting but I would imagine that the stitches would cause that too.
