LSH scheduled, HPV patient
Mind if I hop on? I am scheduled for my hyst 10/13. I'm scheduled for a LSH - keeping my cervix and right ovary. I'm concerned about this decision to keep my cervix even though this is what my dr recommended. I have hpv, had a leep for precancerous cells about 16 yrs ago and my last paps was abnormal about 5 mths ago. However, a f/up colposcopy came back normal. My next paps is scheduled for november, after my surgery. Any thougths?

markieswife: I would really consider a second opinion, and maybe even a third. my why if having all what you mentioned, why is he recomending you to keep your cervix?

I'm scheduled for an LSH on Friday but I think it's going to turn into a LAVH because my family doctor and my GYN has said that they think it best that my cervix be taken. My family doctor said that there is nothing to prove that your bladder drops because you have your cervix out. As a matter of fact he said that since I've already had two children that it's probably going to drop anyway because you lose the elasticity that you have.
Good luck and my prayers are with you.

(((markieswife))), if I had been offered an LSH I wouldn't have taken that option because I had a history of bad PAPs and in fact had to undergo a past cervical conization. I think I were in your situation I would insist that my surgeon explain his/her reasoning for wanting to leave a cervix that had a history of being unhealthy.

I agree with the others, first get a second or even third opinion from an gyn/onco. I really would want an explanation as to why he would leave a problematic cervix.

I agree with getting a second opinion. I had a TAH on 9-10-08, removal of uterus, cervix, and left ovary and tube. My GYN insisted that I let him remove my cervix. I have HPV also, and cervical dysplasia. If the cervix is not healthy, it needs to come out.
