Belly/Breasts after surgery

After surgery, will our bellies/pooches ever be the way they were before the fibroids? Am I going to end up with a bigger belly after surgery?? I know I will have swelling, but will the swelling be that much??!! Basically, will my belly be permanently bigger after surgery??
Also, some posters have said that their breasts got bigger after surgery. What makes this happen? That would be fantastic. No complaints from me.

Re: Belly/Breasts after surgery

I don't know. I would like the answer to the belly pooch too. As to the swelling, that is individual. I have read of some people swelling to the point they can't get their clothes on but I came home in my regular pants and I was wearing my jeans right away. I had fibroids that swelled my uterus to about 16 weeks size (thought the doctor had said 20 weeks but surgical report states differently). I think I am a person that doesn't swell much as I barely had any swelling after my wisdom teeth surgery so if you have had previous surgery, that might be an indication. Just a guess on my part.
My breasts haven't changed, thank goodness. I have plenty there already.

I am six weeks post-op and my belly is now flatter than it was before surgery. My uterus was about double normal sized with fibroids. I had "swelly belly" for a few days mostly from gas.
If you do a search, you'll read some sisters say their breasts grow larger and others say that theirs shrunk. This is determined by estrogen in your body. I am reading a great book by Dr. Uzzi Reiss called Natural Hormone Balance which explains it all. I got it at my public library.

Re: Belly/Breasts after surgery

When I came home from the hospital, I thought it was weird that my stomach seemed to be flatter than before my surgery. Then I saw my doctor and got the pathology report. My uterus weighted 880g, which is almost 2 lbs!! A normal uterus weights about 80g, or 3 oz. Yikes! Can't believe it was that big! I'm assuming I did have some swelling, but because so much was taken out, there was room for the swelling to go inside.

Re: Belly/Breasts after surgery

Oh my, I just did the calculation with the size of my uterus. It was 15 times the size it should have been (1.2 kilograms). Maybe I do have swelling but like mtnreader, there is room for the swelling to go inside. So much for my previous theory. LOL
