Itching Terribly

Hi, my name is Sara and I am the daughter of MrsEgg (Missy). My mom just had her TAH surgery on July 13th. I posted a thread several days ago asking you all about her belly bloating that she was worried about, but I have one more question. She has been itching uncontrollably since she woke up from surgery. I thought that it was from the Morphine that they were giving her, but she has been off of it for about a day and a half and she is still itching terribly. I was wondering if maybe you ladies may have experienced this. I would appreciate any advice that you ladies can give, Thanks.

Sara, it may be a carry-over from the morphine, or they may have followed the morphine with oral pain meds that also cause itching. For some people, Vicodin or Percocet can cause itching. Check with her doctor before making any change, but some people find relief with Benadryl.

It is great that you are helping out your Mom. She must be very proud to have a daughter like you who cares and is looking after her. Best wishes and hugs.

Itching Terribly

Please have her call her doctor and let him know what is going on. It could very well be a reaction to the pain meds...sometimes the itching will linger, at least it did with me. Benadryl was a great relief to take.

best wishes,

Thank you both for your replies. We called her doctor and he took her off of Percocet and gave her some new medication. hopefully this one won't make her itch so badly. Thanks again
