One year - is this normal?? Help!!!

Please help!! I have been having a constant burning/pulling in the middle. I have it all the time and it really does pull with certain movements. I still feel tender and it at 10 months I still cannot do a lot of exercise without having much discomfort. Does it really take a full year for this all to be over? My swelly belly went away about a month ago, and my other muscles seem to be better. It is just this one constant annoyance in the middle (Wierd - at times it even feels itchy) but I definitiely have a pulling (even when I suck my belly in). I have had times where I feel pretty good but this is definitely taking me down.

One year - is this normal?? Help!!!

MonLee

I'm sorry you're experiencing this.

Have you contacted your doctor about it? If not, then I think that would be very wise ~ if only to put your mind at rest.

Will you let us know what you find out? Sending all good wishes and I hope it settles down very soon.

One year - is this normal?? Help!!!

Hi MonLee!
I'm almost at my one year mark. Really, it's only been the past two months I've felt reasonably comfortable with my abdomen to do some of my "normal" activities. Please call your doctor if you are concerned about how you are feeling.

One year - is this normal?? Help!!!

My hyster was vaginal but I have had a c-section and if I turned a certain way or sneezed hard or something I would feel it pull and that lasted for a good year or so but it eventually will go away. Good luck

One year - is this normal?? Help!!!

HI,
Im also at the one yr mark and I still also feel tighting in the incision region. I have sharp pains. Everyone heals different but like the other post its definetly something you should bring up to your Dr. I know because nerves are cut during surgery the healing for them is longer than muscles. Hope you feel better.

One year - is this normal?? Help!!!

Hi Cathy and the other hystersisters. I am so glad I came across this post. I am 7 months post-op and have been having some sharp pains (really kind of poky) if I move certain ways. I also feel pulling if I lay on my side (more so when laying on my right side than on my left side). I still have swelly belly (especially after exercising or being really active). Coughing also results in the pulling feeling. My bff keeps telling me it does take a full year (she went through this 4 years ago). My doctor said some people feel completely normal after 3-4 months and some after 1 1/2 years. She said most are back to normal at around 1 year.

One year - is this normal?? Help!!!

I had some burning pulling feeling. Mine was due to adhesions from my hyster. Unfortuntly, I get adhesions from my adominal surgeries. I'm not saying that is what your pain could be but I would go to the Dr and ask. I ended up having a lap in Sept and my stomach was full of adhesions which stuck my intestines and colon to my adominal wall. I was in alot of pain my PC dr referred me to a specialist who deals with adhesions and he used a barrier to help prevent them from forming again. Best of luck!

I am so sorry that you are still having some pains from your surgery. I think that I would also speak to the doctor and see what he says about it. I have pulling and burning sensations in different parts of my abd. and we think that it is from adhesions (I have had trouble with them in the past), I am scheduled for another surgery to "clean everything up". What you are feeling could be normal healing but I think that I would speak with the doctor just to be sure. best of luck to you.

I'd definitely contact your doctor. That pain is exactly what my adhesions started out feeling like, and then they progressed to pure pain.

1 year not fully recovered

As always - call your doctor first.
I had my vaginal hysterectomy 1 year ago. I also had a lot of reconstructive surgergy. I am so happy with the results and usually feel great. BUT.... I experience a lot of pain whenever I do anything that stresses my abdominals - vacuuming, shampooing carpets, etc. It still is difficult to walk up a flight of stairs - it seems like I have no muscles in my lower abs to support this. My doctor just says "I told you - it was MAJOR surgery - I did a lot of internal work. It will take quite a while to heal. Give yourself a break." But sometimes I feel so normal it's easy to forget to take it a little easier. Then the pain reminds me! But call your doctor.
