8 days post of and still experiencing aches in pelvic floor

Hi there. Im 8 days post op vaginal hysterectomy. I am having some moderate aching in what I think is my pelvic floor. Is this normal? I am not having a fever. The swelling has gone down significantly (but still there). Im getting by without vicodin. But I tire easliy. Id appreciate a little feedback. I guess Im afraid that Im being a bit of a baby.

Re: 8 days post of and still experiencing aches in pelvic floor

You are definitely not being a baby! You have had major surgery and everything takes time to heal on the inside. Take it easy, try not to do too much, and lay down when everything starts aching. It's very frustrating in the first few weeks! I am now over 4 weeks post op, and my biggest complaint is the aching I get in my vagina when I try to do too much.

You are in no way a baby! You just had your body traumatized by surgery...not an everyday occurence!!! I had pelvic achyness a long time, and still get twinges, only 3.5 weeks out. I think it is perfectly normal, from what I've read. Glad you are paying attention to your body...take it easy and let yourself be a princess. Your soul and your body deserve it! Hug!!

Yes this is quite normal. As the initial trauma of the surgery begins to settle the next thing I experienced was swelling. I could tell I had vaginal swelling because my vagina would feel "full". Ibuprofen helps tremendously with that. It keeps the swelling down. I found as I healed more, did more, and when I went back to work, this was my next battle - keeping the vaginal swelling down.

Re: 8 days post of and still experiencing aches in pelvic floor

You are not a baby, the pelvic floor consists of many delicate tissues and nerve endings. It is a major thing for our bodies to go through. The swelling and achiness down there will last weeks (or for some women, months). Be patient with your body as it recovers and rest often. Usually when the aching gets worse it means you've done too much. And "doing too much" sometimes means simply standing too long or sitting too long in a hard chair.

Hello. Thank you! It seems Im not the best patient. I figured since the pain was not more than 4 on a pain scale...i should suspend the use of the ibuprofen. I didnt even think about its anti inflammatory properites...duh! I am taking my prescribed ibuprofen now. Thank you again.
