Re: (sensative topic) Been on google to much...
Basically, ignore every scare site you've ever found. Those websites infuriate me. Someone (more than a few someones) out there thinks it's funny to scare the living daylights out of frightened women who are facing major surgery, and I wish they'd drop off a cliff.
While it IS major surgery, and that's not a thing to be considered lightly, it's also undertaken many thousands of times by women all around the world. Here, you'll find tons of first-person experience, information, advice, and support.
My story: I had a fibroid the size of Jupiter that was squashing everything around it, and it had to go. I had an abdominal entry, removing my uterus, fallopian tubes, cervix. I kept my ovaries. That was Halloween 2013, and I feel fantastic right now. I weigh precisely what I weighed beforehand, minus the weight of the fibroid. I feel great. :-)
That's not to say that there aren't women who experience complications. My surgery was fairly straightforward. Some women have to deal with endometriosis, prolapses, or cancer concerns, or are dealing with surgical menopause fmor having had ovaries removed. In their cases, things can be more complex. And for the (very few!) women who do have longer-term issues pop up, it's wonderful that they can come here and share information and support with one another. However -- those stories are in the minority. Please don't let them frighten you. Statistically, you are very likely to come out of this with flying colors, wondering why on Earth you didn't do it sooner.
Here's another data point for you: my mom had a hysterectomy done in the late 80s, when she was the same age as when I had mine (47). She just turned 80 and is doing very, very well.
Seriously -- stay off of those horrible scare sites. This one is filled with women who have had a hysterectomy and every other type of surgery and procedure you can imagine. And again, while it is major surgery and not a walk in the park, we all got through it, and you will too. :-)
What brings you here? What kind of diagnosis did you get, and what have your doctors been advising you to do?

Re: (sensative topic) Been on google to much...
There are risks with having a hysterectomy and you should be aware of them so you can determine if the possible benefits for you outweigh those risks.
Typically, heart problems and pre-mature death are risks of having a bilateral oophorecomty (removal of both ovaries). Are you having your ovaries removed along with your uterus? If so, then you need to discuss these risks (and others) with your doctor to be sure you are making the right decision for you. Some oophorectomy related risks can be minimized with HRT, but not all.
Have you gotten a second opinion? If not, I strongly recommend you do so. There are several reasons to get a second opinion including another physician may have other options you can consider or could confirm that your current plan is the right one for you. Regardless, you should discuss all your questions and concerns with your doctor before signing any consent forums or heading into OR.
Google doesn't know everything and you can scare yourself needlessly if you focus on biased sites which don't present the facts. There are very real risks which you should consider before ever having a hysterectomy and oophorectomy, but be sure to get the info from a reliable and reputable source so you are considering facts and not agendas. Then discuss the information with your medical professionals to see how they apply to you and your situation.

Re: (sensative topic) Been on google to much...hysterectomy risks
On a funny note, I even read on one site where it said hyst ladies all get flat butts and all gain weight. So not true. My hyst went well, just a slow healer. I kept my ovary , she's flying solo pretty well. I also talked to aunt and gran, who had the same issues and are doing well. Gran is 85 and there's no slowing her down, she's been my biggest supporter !!! My Dr arranged for an all female staff and I stopped wearing a pad, day 2!!! That's been so awesome! I had adenomyosis. Get the facts, glad your here.

Re: (sensative topic) Been on google to much...hysterectomy risks
Weiser makes a very good point. It's the loss of your ovaries, and thus your hormonal supply, not your uterus, that leads to the risks that you described.
As part of my reading, however, there is still some risk to your ovaries even if they are not being removed. The main blood supply to them is the artery coming from your uterus, which has to be cut to remove it. They have a secondary blood supply, the ovarian artery, that should take over. However, there is some risk of early ovarian death even if they are not removed. This risk is greatest for those women who have a hysterectomy very young.
There are long-term risks, and those risk in my humble opinion from my research, have not been studied extensively. This is not a surgery to have if there are alternatives for your situation. It is a little scary. Not in the short term --- I feel great 6 weeks out -- but the long-term repercussions do concern me and I would not have had the surgery if I could have avoided it.

Re: (sensative topic) Been on google to much...hysterectomy risks
Are you sure? Have you consulted with an endometriosis specialist? Are you aware that a hysterectomy is not a cure for endometriosis? Even if you must have a hysterectomy, I strongly recommend you have it done with a specialist so you have a better chance at having a successful outcome endo wise. When removing endometriosis, OB/GYN's tend to use methods which do not completely remove the implants and/or which can't be used in all areas. As long as any endometriosis exists, then there is potential for continued and even worsening issues whether or not you have a uterus.

A hyst is the only cure for adenomyosis. Other things are treatments, but can delay surgery or get you through till meno. But my DR said meno was always a cure for adeno, either. ;(
