1week post op appt and released!

wanted to report about my dr visiit!...had my LAVH/BSO on dec 21...today on new years eve i had my 1 week follow up and my dr released me for EVERYTHING! LOL! even sex! she said everything looked great, everything was healing as it should: i told her i had read about "nothing in the vagina for six weeks" and she says honestly thats not an issue like it once was...YAY!! i am fortunate that my hubby and i, after 30 years of marriage, still got it and i wasnt looking forward to having to wait six long weeks!!! she says to just go with how i feel and be easy...i have been doing great, only discomfort i have had has been the gas from the surgery. no problems with incisions or pain, only been using advil pm since the 2nd day....no surgical menopause symptoms yet and im not on any hormones, so here's to a Happy New Year to you all!!!

Re: 1week post op appt and released!

I am in a bit of shock here but then again, I am not the one with the medical degree. I am guessing that you kept your cervix so you aren't dealing with a vaginal cuff that could rupture. Even though you have been released for everything, be sure to take it easy and don't lift too heavy at first as you don't want to undo the good healing that is happening. Take care of yourself.

Re: 1week post op appt and released!

Okay, then I am going to stick my neck way out here and go against a medical professional. Please do not have sex until at least 6 weeks or even longer because you totally risk having your cuff rupture. The cuff is the area where she sewed you up. Her advice flies against everything I have read or experienced for the last two years and I am sure that other hostesses that have been on this site much longer than me would agree. Even I, who kept her cervix, was told no sex for at least 6 weeks and at 5 and half week, he told me to hang on for another couple of weeks. I don't want to scare you but I also don't want you to experience a ruptured vaginal cuff. This article goes into more details why you should wait.

Sex at 1 week sounds like a horrible, terrible idea. Please listen to your gut here.

Re: 1week post op appt and released!

Kept my cervix, and my doc stuck to the "nothing in the vagina" rule for 6 weeks. Personally I'm glad for the conservative approach. I've read too many horror stories... And I don't even have a cuff! Be careful

Re: 1week post op appt and released!

Wow- I had a LAVH as well and I was told no sex for 6 weeks- then I had my post op check and was told I was not healed and nothing in the vagina for 3 additional weeks and then take it gentle and slow. I waited another full week so 10 weeks before we did the deed and it was scary and a little painful even though we did as we were told and took it gentle and slow. Note- I had NO complications after surgery.

I am also shocked- I think you'd be taking a huge risk. Please be very careful.
