vertical incision

Hi Ladies,
Once again, I am unsure where to post this question. I am post-surgical, so I'll put it here in the hopes I've found a suitable spot for it...
Anyways...I'm regularly in contact with a woman who promotes awareness of ovarian cancer and offers support to women affected by this. She sent me an article which said:

"The bikini cut actually causes more damage to abdominal muscles than the vertical, and the healing process is usually longer as a consequence. Nonetheless, with either cut, there is muscle damage, tissue scarring, and the healing involves swelling, and for some, quite a lot of pain, and gastrointestinal
discomfort."

I have never heard before that a vertical incision causes less damage. Can anyone verify this?

I didn't know the answer here, but I found an old thread that is so very informative on this subject- at least on the subject of the differences and why a surgeon might choose one over the other. I think you will find your answer and then some- I hope so.

Rita - That's the best thread I have seen on this - and the link within that thread is very interesting...possibly almost too interesting - for me anyway, world-class chicken that I am, even in retrospect!
