Friends Sharing

I am almost two weeks post op. I have had several friends call to wish me well, but the conversation always seems to turn to them. Thier hysterectomy or even more upsetting their C-sections. Why do they ask me how I am doing when they really want to talk about themselves?! It's really annoying! And....a C-section is NOT the same as a hysterectomy. Help!

Re: Friends Sharing

I can understand you feeling annoyed, as you are the one who is going through recovery now. However, if you think about it, it is really common for people to start telling their own stories in any situation. Also, as inadequate as it seems, they are trying to show that they have been through a similar situation and understand how you are feeling.
Good luck with your recovery.

Re: Friends Sharing

I agree with Zany. In a strange way they are trying to let you know they can relate to what your going through.

Re: Friends Sharing

I understand what you mean.
I had a friendly co-worker who at 10 days post op was calling me 6 times a day to talk about her problems with her sister! I tried to nicely say about being tired, needing rest, and people calling too much. It didn't work. I even had my niece who works with us talk to her about calling and she called as soon as she got off work that night! I just stopped calling her back/taking her calls for about a week to keep my sanity.

Re: Friends Sharing

For the first few weeks post op I actually HATED talking on the phone to anyone. The few calls I did take I kept short, like under 2 minutes. The ones I didn't want to talk to I would text back, " not feeling well enough to chat, sorry" They finally stopped calling.Post op healing is such a mental ordeal/strain, and I didn't want to deal with even the chatter of the TV. I'm just now able to socialize on the phone, but still tire fast. I wanted absolutely NO visitors either. Just wanted to heal in peace on my terms.
