Need Advice Desperately
Hi, I am new to this board, but I really need some advice. I have had really bad periods forever and after my 2nd child I was put on Depo. Well, I still had pelvic pain and after 2 hernia surgeries and a couple more exploratory, I had my last laporoscopy in oct. 2000 for a mass on my ovary. When she got in there she found nothing but an adhesion attaching my abdomen to my intestines. She removed that and then I was fine for 2 months. I went back and she can find nothing wrong. I went to my regular Dr. to see if she knew what was going on. She said it sounded like endo. I asked my Gyn and she said she could have missed it. So now I am on Lupron. We tried going on estrogen, wow,was that a nightmare, really bad pain. Then she said that if the Lupron helped, it was probably endo. Well it has been over 2 weeks now and I am feeling pretty good. She wants to do the whole 6 months then go back on Depo. Then see if the pain returns. I have done some research and endo seems to always come back. I don't want the bone loss either from the Lupron. My idea was to just have a hyst. in August when I can take the time off of work. I just think maybe I am jumping into it. How long has anyone had success on Lupron after stopping it? I am fine with hot flashed ect. I am taking an herbal supplement that works great. I don't think I want to go on estrogen after a hyst. for fear endo would come back. I have so much to think of I can't sleep, or think of anything else sometimes. The question for anyone who will respond to this, the more the better, is should I push for the hyst. or wait? If I go for it how can I convince my Dr. that I am serious about it? I am 30yrs old and don't want any more kids, I have had my tubes tied.
Thank you to anyone in advance. Missy

Need Advice Desperately
Hi Missy and welcome! I don't have any experience with what you have asked, besides the talking to your doctor about it part. My doctor didn't think I was serious at first because I was very upset and in pain when I brought it up. I let that sit for a few days and then called him, left a message and let his nurse know that I needed him to call me after his last patient, when he would have time to listen. Then I outlined my problems, every reason I had for wanting the surgery, everything that had happened and would continue to happen. Then I appealed to his logical side. If he were in my shoes, would he really want to be in pain and worrying about all of the physical problems? Would he continue to live with the symptoms and not become a total pest to his doctor to DO something about it? And I reminded him of the documentation that he has in his files, all of the real medical reasons. He listened to me, was very quiet when I was finished and asked me if I was sure. Dead sure? yes.. I was sure. So he had my husband and I go in for a face to face consultation. Something we had never done in our 5 years with this doctor! It was enlightening for all of us, gave us perspective and made it clear that we still had some thinking to do, all three of us. But it was such a great feeling of progress and he knows I am very serious and have thought it through.
I would suggest doing at least some of the above, or more than the above. Get together with your doctor, on the phone or in person, outline your problems and your needs. Ask your doctor's opinion and ask her to put herself in your shoes and see how it would feel. That might not work with every doctor, but it sure did with mine!
I am not saying that a hysterectomy is the best thing for you, since I don't know from personal experience what you are dealing with. But if you decide that this is what you want, do your research, gather your information, make your lists, put them all into a binder and go sit down with your doctor to discuss it. Your doctor is there to help you be healthy, not dictate what you want or need to do!
Best of luck and listen to the other ladies here, they know a lot more than I do about what you are dealing with.

thanks for the links
Thank you for the advice and the links. Yes, I acctually mentioned endo to my Gyn after my regular Dr. mentioned it to me. I did some research and was reading about myself it seemed. So I talked to her about it and that is when she said it could be microscopic and giving me lots of pain. That is why we are trying the Lupron. She said that if the Lupron works, then it is more than likely endo. If it doesn't work she said that it could be pelvic compression and take the tube and ovary out on the side that has pain. I am so sick of this. Most days I just want to schedule it and do it. Then I think of surgery and recovery and I am a very active person so that is hard to think of. I have been reading a lot about laproscopic hysterectomy and I might talk to her about that, if the Lupron works, and it seems to be working. Thanks for listening, it really helps.
