blister help

Hi. Had my abdominal done on Monday, and have come home today, in some pain.

I used a heat pack on my tummy but its been too hot and I now have a large watery blister on my tummy, above the staples.

what can I do? I didn't realise that the heat pack was too hot as my tummy is all numb.

thanks. X

Re: blister help

hi tammy!!
I did not have a blister due to a temperature burn, however, i did a massive allergic reaction to the steri-strips ( or their goo) all around my incisions and large water blisters from it.
I am on the mend, so I can safely say my surgeon's suggestions helped. She told me bathe them ( blisters) twice daily in antibacterial soap, then apply antibacterial ointment to any open areas, and hydrocortosone cream( which contains aloe) to the closed blisters and any redness. Don't try to pop them, but allow to drain naturally, and try not to peel the skin off once they do, as that is the natural defense.

Don't get discouraged, it took 6 days to see the difference, and I still have the scabs and some redness now. It takes a while to heal them!
Good luck!

Re: blister help

I also had the giant blisters as a reaction from the steri-strips. I followed the same exact instructions as Alicathelton and mine popped on their own. I also left the skin/scabs alone after they popped and after a couple weeks, those came off too. I thought for sure they'd scar but they ended up being nothing. Mine were SO big it freaked out my neighbor who's a medical student! LOL! I'm 7 wks post-op.

Re: blister help

If you got a burn from a heat pack that was too hot, you need to call your doctor. You could be at increased risk for infection. Please let us know how you are doing.

Re: blister help

Thanks for the advice. I'm gonna follow it and try and stop any infection.

I went to my doctor today, and she has given me some painkillers, and said the blister looks like a reaction to something.

I'm just taking it easy at the moment.
