5 weeks post hysterectomy with spotting

I am five weeks post abdominal hysterectomy. Cervix and tubes removed but overies in tact. Is it possible to still have a period? I stopped bleeding for a week now but i have been cramping and I started spotting. Not sure what to think about it.

Thanks

Re: 5 weeks post op with spotting

Even though you kept your ovaries, without your uterus or cervix, there's no uterine lining to shed. (For women who retain their cervix a small percentage of them might experience mini-periods)

Spotting can increase when your internal stitches dissolve, and you may also spot more if you begin to overdo it. The cramping you're having is a bit of a clue. Hormone-like substances (prostaglandins) are released at the site of inflammation in the healing process, and are the cause of our old menstrual cramps as well as bowel cramps. Have you done something a little more intense recently? Push a vacuum cleaner or mop? Longer outing? Hosting family? I noticed whenever I'd do a little more than I was used to (like the first time I walked 3 miles), I'd have twinges and swelling for the rest of the day into the next. It was added inflammation. If this is the case, take it easy for the next few days and rest a little more.

If you ever have any concerns that your spotting is not normal, it's okay to call your doctor.

Yes, i did carried a few bags from the grocery store for the first time. Maybe I did a bit too much. I will definitely rest the next few days. Thank you!
