To All LIW - I'm Home!!!
I am home from the castle! Actually, I have been home for awhile, today is the first day I have really felt up to sitting and writing about my experience. My surgery was Monday, 9/24 at 7:30 a.m. My DH and I arrived at the hospital at 6:00 a.m and I was immediately taken back to the pre-op staging area. I changed into my lovely gown and waited for the nurse. All the while my husband was allowed to wait with me. After lots of questions, the nurse started my IV (this was the part I dreaded the most) and thankfully, she got it the first time!! In a little while another nurse came to talk to me. She was from the anesthesia department. She put something in my IV and said I wouldn't remember anything from that point on. WRONG!!! I guess she didn't give me enough because I remember going into the next waiting area where I met the anesthisologist and also talked to my Dr. From that point things get a little fuzzy, I do remember being wheeled into the operating room and thinking "Hey, I'm not supposed to remember this part! Where are the good drugs?" I can remember seeing and hearing the nurses counting something across the room and looking up at the clock. It said 7:35 a.m. The next thing I remember was someone putting a mask over my nose and mouth and telling me breathe deeply. I took two or three deep breaths and "light's out!" I woke up in the recovery room to the nurses telling me push the pump. They also put a hormone patch on my leg. The next thing I remember was waking up in my room about 6:00 p.m. that evening. I have vague memories of seeing my mom, dad, sister and husband. The nurses were great, asking me repeatedly to rate my pain. My DH says I kept saying "8", I was sure I was saying "10". I slept most of the night. To all LIW, the nurses will wake you up every 2 hours to check your vital signs. Next morning, I walked to the bathroom and down the hall. It really was very uneventful, except for the night I began to run a fever. I ended up staying an extra day to make sure my fever stayed down. Extra blood tests and no one could figure out the cause of my temp. I think I just run a temp. after surgery. Anyway, I came home on Thursday, 9/27 and have gotten a little better each day. Tomorrow will be 2 weeks exactly since my TAH/BSO and I am feeling wonderful. A little tired and still a little sore but definitely better every day! Sorry this is so long, but I was truly a basket case before my surgery. I had way too long to think about it and believe me the waiting is really the worst part. The pathology reports came back with a dx of severe stage IV endo. I only bleed for about 2 days after the surgery and did not even have to come home with pads.
I am still taking it very easy and I'm enjoying all the pampering from my husband, family and friends. I still can't believe that this summer when my husband and I go on a cruise for our 20th wedding anniversary, I won't have to plan the dates around my period! Thank goodness!! Hang in there everyone, it's truly wonderful on the other side!!
Hugs!
Rachael

Welcome Rachael!!
I'm so glad that you are here on the other side and that your experience was a good one.
When I was waiting, stories like yours really helped my...I always read EVERY word! Thank you for sharing it with us...and for being such a good example to the LIWs by NOT overdoing it, and really taking things slow and easy!
Keep it up, and let us know how you're doing!

Rachael,
It's good to see and read your post. Welcome Home and remember that sitting and computing IS an activity. So ladies, you must listen to your body. Turn off the computer and go when you feel tired or feel some throbbing. Sounds like you are listening to your body Rachael. Good Job!

Thanks for your story. I agree, I read every word too. I wish I had these stories before my colon surgery six years ago. The "unknown" was more frightening than anything.
