Should I Get A Second Opinion?

Hi. I'm p/o w5 sub-total hyst. I've had a firm lump developing along the internal incision line on my left side...general discomfort which escalates to sharp stabbing pains at times, especially with gas or bm, or just for nothing.
I finally called my Dr and he abruptly told me 'it's normal...could be fluid or blood, I wouldn't do anything even if I felt it.'
My 6wk f/u is 7/21 and my concern is that he is brushing me off. We had a little disagreement regarding p/o pain mgmnt. After consulting with my cousin (neurologist) I asked gyn to order neurontin as nothing (including fentanyl patch) was helping. The neurontin alleviated the pain and his response was 'I guess we'll never know if it was the neurontin or not.'
Will another Dr. evaluate someone elses work? Am I over-reacting?
Thanks...this has tried my patience!

Should I Get A Second Opinion?

Myjo - First of all, it's your body. If you are uncomfortable, you have a right to treatment. Don't "they" take an oath!?! The only thing I question is, what if it's an infection or an abcess of some kind? I had a c-section a dozen years ago, and ended up with a very bad (very bad!) infection directly IN the incision! And my nurses/drs wouldn't listen to me either! I ended up admitted with intervenous antibiotic for 5 days, and an ultrasound ON the incision (which had staples in it! ow!) to look for more abcesses. If you are concerened, find someone who will listen. Don't wait! Good luck, and let us know if you find help!

Should I Get A Second Opinion?

I would just make an appt. Be seen by him and if he still doesn't respond, move on. Don't let him put you off! It is your body and if you feel that there is something going on, you should have it checked out. Sorry you had a spat with the dr, that can make things a bit uncomfortable, but good for you for standing up for yourself!

Should I Get A Second Opinion?

Thanks ladies. I just feel as if I've lost confidence in this Dr. and after this kind of surgery I need a Dr who won't just give me curt answers and behave as if I'm annoying him.

Should I Get A Second Opinion?

If you are questioning if you should have a second opinion...then you do!
I had a second surgery at 16 weeks p/o do to cuff not healing properly. Kept going back saying something was wrong. He would not only help me but told me the pain was all in my head and offered me anti-depressant. Went to another Dr. for a second opinion, he spent over a hour with me, and he fixed the problem that was causing my pain and after that he is now my new Dr.
