Question for POST-OPs

At hospital at 9a on 7/17, to surgical area at 1:30p, had LSH BSO, in room 7p. Home today 7/20 at 11am
Developed a low grade temp 7/19, was kept another day. The day after surgery, I was walking laps in the unit. Slow at first, but then picked up speed (HAA HAA), (I could tell you how many ceiling tiles there were in the halls) Best recommendations, drink, drink, & walk, it will get easier, and take your own SOFT toilet paper!

Question for POST-OPs

My surgery was at 8:30 on a Friday morning. It took 2 1/2 hours and I was in the recovery room until around 1:30. Saturday morning they took the catherer out, removed the IV and started me on oral meds. I was encouraged to walk the halls and was up several times to use the bathroom. I went home around noon time on Sunday.

Question for POST-OPs

Had a TVH, kept ovaries, on June 27, had to be at castle at 6:00am for pre-op, went in to OR at 8:00am, in recovery about 11:30, that's when I actually woke up, had trouble breathing, throat was very, very, dry, like the desert. In to room about noon. Had no packing, no cath, so that was nice. Was released at 2:00 pm on the 28th. Had IV in all that time, don't know why, all drs and hospitals are different. My best advice is drink, drink, drink. As soon as they put H2O in front of me I downed it and kept drinking until I left the castle, hope this helps.

Question for POST-OPs

Marie2, glad you are on the other side of the castle. Yes, pain management can be hard. I'm sure if you called the doc's ofc w/questions they would help out. For me a nurse called me a couple of days after i got home and she answered all my questions. I had TVH and from what I'm learning on this site, the TAH needs a lot of time and patience for healing. Good luck to you. There are lots of good threads where you can post questions. Welcome home. E.

Question for POST-OPs

two to three days in the castle seems to be the norm for TAH in the US. In England I had five nights stay for TAH. TVH would have been a littl e bit shorter

Question for POST-OPs

Bagpuss45,

Good observation. It certainly doesn't mean we heal quicker than anyone in the UK. It just means we have private health insurance and they are calling the shots.

Question for POST-OPs

It's amazing how much just 36 hours in a hospital in the USA can cost! Since this is post op questions I will not tell you..........but it's a sad situation here, definitely. I have a neighbor whom I'm trying to get on this site who had quite a bit of surgery done in June and she has to pay a massive portion even with her insurance carrier. I think it all adds to our post op stress/slower recovery sometimes, arguing with the billing agencies, etc. Have a good Thursday everyone. E

Question for POST-OPs

Friday Surgery at 07:30 - 2 hours
Monday Discharge 10:00

I could have gone home the Sunday, but Dr didn't do rounds. I was up and showering, walking early on Saturday morning after the Morphine IV was removed and drugs worn off a bit. I was told to expect 3-5 days if nothing went wrong and 5-8 days if I got an infection or something or the surgery was bigger than planned. In Australia, we do not have to fight with our insurance companies and expenses are much less than the US.

Question for POST-OPs

Wow. Amazing. Health Care sure differs around the world. Thanks for that info, shered. In my heart I sure wish I'd been elsewhere sometimes for this whole ordeal..........well, my doc is from another country/culture. Guess that counts for something! Take care. Hope you are healing well. E.
