TVH & never had children?

Please Help! Has anyone had a TVH that never had children? I meet with my doctor tomorrow to finalize my surgery scheduled for this Friday (May 31) at 7:30 AM and still don't know which way to go.

Any info would be gratefully appreciated!

TVH & never had children?

I had a TVH on April 24th and have never had any children. Everything went smoothly and my recovery has been uneventful. I will be 5 weeks post-op this week and am pain free! I am exercising, sleeping better than I have in a year, and feel healthier! If you have any specific concerns or questions please feel free to email me. Having faith and thinking positive made the experience better than what I had anticipated. Good Luck!

Hi Loondreams,

I don't fit your criteria, but I did want to say "Welcome to Hystersisters". I'm glad that you have found us.

Please read as much as you can, and ask your questions - we're here to help, if we can.

TVH & never had children?

Hi Loondreams,
I don't either fit the criteria but...this is a 3 day holiday and I know there are quite a few sisters who have had a hysterectomy and no children. There will be more activity on line Tues. I don't know your age or the reasons for your surgery but if there is anything specific we can talk to you about ...please let us know.
Meantime, welcome to this wonderful site

TVH & never had children?

Hi!
I had a TAH and do not have children. You did not mention why you are considering the hyst. Mine was due to cancer. Have you talked to your doctor about freezing your eggs? You could find a surrogate, and then there's adoption. As for me, I always said if I did have children, it would be around age 35. Well, I was diagnosed with cervical cancer at age 31. Yes, it was upsetting to no longer have the choice, but I can always adopt if the time comes that I feel is right for parenthood. I have wonderful nefews and a niece and I love spending time with them. Of course, I get to give them back!
There are other options available to you in the future as well. Not being able to have children does not mean you are not able to have children in your life. I try to look at it as a unique opportunity for something special. All my options are open. I can volunteer at a children's hospital. I can join Big Brothers, Big Sisters. I can offer to house a foreign exchange student. There are lots of kids out there that can benefit from what you have to offer. I did not feel this way about my situation right away. It takes time. I went through 'mourning my dream children' and it's ok to do that. Like any loss there are stages, but then you reach acceptance. Are you married? If so how does your hubbie feel? If not, is marriage far off in your future? Could the hyst wait a while longer? Would a pregnancy be risky? Let us know why you're considering the hyst so more ladies who have been in your situation can help.

Good luck!

TVH & never had children?

Sisters,

Thanks for the welcome, the hug and the shared experiences. After browsing the site off & on for a few weeks, I got the courage to actively participate. I'm 45, married, and self-employed so, obviously, not being able to work for awhile is scary. I have at least 9 fibroids clustered together but none of particularly great size (but big enough to put pressure on my bladder, digestive tract, give me constant cramps & bloating, heavy bleeding and make me want to blow my brains out 85 per cent of the time). If a procedure with less trauma and recovery time is possible for me, I'd like to give it a try. I've been on Lupron for 4 months to build my blood up and shut off hormonal nutrients to the fibroids. My doctor was uncertain about, but willing to try, a TVH in my case. Hopefully everything has shrunk to a level that will allow for this procedure. Again, a big thanks to this site. With all I have learned here, I'm better prepared for my pre-op consultation, and the good wishes that go with me into surgery from all of you mean a great deal.

TVH & never had children?

I've never had any kids. My doctor said he *could* do a TVH, but would prefer to do a TAH. "No elbow room." (He had just done a hysteroscopy/D&C on me a few weeks before, so he knew what he had to work with.) So we went with the TAH, which worked out great.

Best of luck!

TVH & never had children?

Hi, Loondreams,

I had a TVH/BSO, and I have never given birth. My doctor had no difficulty performing the surgery.

Please feel free to contact me, if you have questions.

Best wishes,
Helen

TVH v. TAH

Dear Loondreams:

The issue of children aside, I can tell you I am day four after LAVH + RSO (left ovary previously removed), and I am feeling very well. I had to proactively push for the vaginal surgery, although there did not seem to be any real reason it wasn't offered to start with. Just seemed like the system was set up to assume an abdominal surgery. I am SO glad not to have the abdominal incision like I had for my prior oophorectomy! Of course, there's always a chance they will have to revert to an abdominal surgery during the procedure; I was lucky that my LAVH went as planned. I hope all goes well for you, too, no matter which procedure you have. I'm sure you're going to feel so much better when you're symptom-free. Hang in there.
