I need advice....fast !!!

O.K. Here is the situation...
My 7 yr. old son had a sleep over party last night for his birthday. One boy did not sllep over although he did come at 5:00 and play with all the kids and leave about 10:00. Here is the problem.. His mother called this a.m. to inform me that he woke up with the chicken pox. ( aparently he had a few pox on his legs yesterday but she thought they were bug bites). My children ( ages 4,7 and 9) have not had the chichen pox nor have they had the shot. The incubation is 10-14 days and my sugery is in 10 days !!!!.
I am so totally freaking out that I am sick to my stomache. I have a total schedule planned out for them to be shuffled all around for about a week. That will not fly if they are all sick. I know there is a chance that they won't get it, but let's be realistic. Oh sisters....what am I going to do???????

Have you already had them? If not,I know from when my son had his chemo that there is an immunoglobulin shot that he got to keep him from getting them when he had an exposure.Call your doc immediately though to see if this is a possability because there was a window of oppertunity to get it.Good luck to you!

OH honey I'm so sorry. Take the advice and call their doctor. Sometimes there is a nurse on call that can tell you something or may be able to help you find out if they have time for the shot. I know in my state there was a shot that they give kids now to keep them from getting it. Have you had them already?

You are in my prayers and thoughts

Aw, gee -- what a mess.

I agree -- the important question is whether or not YOU'VE had chicken pox. If your kids get them, they'll get them and there's not much you can do about it. Also, some kids get fairly light cases of chicken pox and aren't even all that sick with them.

Is there any way someone could come in and stay with them at your house if they are sick? Perhaps you have a nurse friend who wouldn't mind helping out. It's amazing who will come out of the woodwork (so to speak) and be willing to assist you.

Just a thought.

I agree with the others - the important thing is for YOU not to get them.

When my oldest 2 daughters got them, the Dr. gave them some kind of medicine to control the breakout. And between them I'll bet they didn't have 20 pox.

Try not to worry too much - call the Dr. and see what he says.

I'll be thinking of you .

Love & Hugs,
Michelle

Good morning, Yes I have had them so that isn't an issue. I did call the dr. office and basucally there isn't much they can do to prevent this late in the game. I am even beginnning to wonder if I should postpone my surg. .
I had just gotten through my pre-op with no problems and I am emotionally ready for this. Boy when it rains it pours huh? I do appreciate all your advice. Tracey

If you have someone that is planning to help you out after surgery, maybe they can do double duty if necessary. The only way you could tell that my son had chicken pox was because he had some spots and we knew he'd been exposed. Chicken pox are weird. Light exposure (such as the party) often means a light case. Heavy exposure (a sibling has them) can mean a heavy case. The odds are that any of your kids that come down with them in the next ten days would have a light case and not feel very sick.

If they get them, a good way to relieve the itch is to have the kids take a lukewarm bath with oatmeal and then air dry afterwards. Don't want the oatmeal clogging up your tub? Put it in an old sock and tie the end off. It worked great for my daughter who DID get a heavy case of pox after being exposed to her brother for a long time.

Hi everyone!

Just a note about the chickenpox shot/vaccine. It does NOT prevent anyone from contracting the chicken pox altogether. It will however decrease the case if the person should get them.
