UFE - My Experience
I had UFE this past Monday, May 24 for an 8 cm fibroid and another smaller one that wasn't noticed until the MRI. I am 32 with no children by choice. I have to say the worst part of the entire procedure was the catheter into my bladder. I had never had one and cried thru the entire insertion and after until they knocked me out. I was somewhat awake thru the procedure, talked to doctor and nurses, made a few jokes and watched some of it on the monitor. I felt nothing during, however when i went to recover I had horrible cramping and back pains from laying down so long. I think I had a hard time with the cramps because I wanted to sit up but they wouldn't let me. The pain continued thru the afternoon until they got the pain meds regulated. Then I was OK. I didn't sleep much that night but who can in the hospital. I was discharged around noon the next day. So far I have had very little discharge or bleeding and the pain has gotten better over the last couple of days. I walked a little in our subdivision the last two days. So far, so good with everything. I have taken off work all week and can go back next week if I am able, which I think I will be for a while. I get tired pretty fast right now. I also have a problem with going to the bathroom, when I have to pee I really have to pee. And it comes with a little pain but not like a UTI. The doctor said that was normal because of the fibroid breaking apart and he was surprised I didn't have bladder issues before.
I have to say that I am avid worker-outer and not being able to work out has been a challenge, but I think it helped me to recover faster.
Sorry this is a long post but I found other experiences of women on here helped me so i wanted to help back. It's been a good decision so far, I'm sure it can change in a minute but so far so good.
