I really think I am getting a cold!!!!

11 days and it is finally my turn for surgery. As most of you know I have been waiting since June for this and I am so ready for it to happen.
I have a headache and am sniffling. I am taking a multi vitamin, 1000mg vitamin C and echinecea. Help give me some ideas to get rid of it. The good thing is I can probably beat it still.

I am anxiously awaitingyour ideas

This cannot be happening

I really think I am getting a cold!!!!

Hi Cathlaur, I have been reading your posts and following you story. I know how frustrating it is now to realize you might be getting a cold. My surgery was in March, (the heart of flu season) and I felt afraid to leave the house. I didn't want to catch anything. You still have plenty of time. Call your Doctor's office and see what they recomend. From my own personal point of view, I highly recomend hot tubs. We have a small one and we use it on a regular basis, but anytime I feel I have a cold coming on, I make sure I use it everyday, and I never seem to get the cold. I breath the vapors in and it really seems to help. I haven't had a cold in several years and the one I did get then wasn't too bad. I think all the chorine that we put in there to sanitize it, also kills germs in my sinuses if I breathe in enough of the steam. This is not medical advise mind you, it just really seems to work for me. Call the doctor, you still have plenty of time to get well. Good luck and hope you feel well soon. (There is always chicken soup, and I have read that really does help with the symptoms some.)

I really think I am getting a cold!!!!

Are you sure that it's not allergies? Allergy season is brutal this year in our area.

I did the same thing about a week before my surgery. It was a real panic. You sound like you're doing the right thing. Just make sure you check with your doc regarding the echinecea. Make sure that it won't cause problems with your surgery. The best thing you can do is make sure you drink LOTS of water and get lots of rest.

Also...is your thyroid problem autoimmune in nature? Because if it is you should NOT be taking echinecea.

Take care!

I really think I am getting a cold!!!!

Zinc lozenges or zinc nasal spray might help. Check with the doctor on when to stop echinacea and other supplements you are taking.

I really think I am getting a cold!!!!

I also thought I was getting a cold. Now I am convinced that my allergies are acting up. I do not feel "sick", just congested and drippy. My allergy medicine seems to be helping.

Maybe you will be "lucky" and it is "just allergies".(not to down play how miserable allergies can make us.................)

Good Luck!

I really think I am getting a cold!!!!

Thanks ladies

I was told at my pre-op that echinecea was okay to take. I am really hoping it is allergies, though why would I start now. But a nurse in my area said that the rag weed is really bad this year. Do you get a headache with allergies? I am really hoping to win this battle.I have to have the surgery done.

I will keep you posted

Yes, allergies can cause headaches. Hubby has really bad allergies and when he's suffering he always gets a headache.

Hi Cathlaur, I was told not to take Echinecea. I would check with the doctor and make very sure. I know all the doctors are different. But call and check to make sure. Herbals are very funny. On my form to fill out, St. Johns Wort is actually on the forms. If you have taken it within 2 weeks, they will cancel you on the spot. Just be careful the the Echinecea. If your doctor and hospital don't care and say it's not a problem, then I wouldn't worry about it. Good Luck and hoping for you that it is allergies. My nose is stuffy this week too.
