question about stitches

I had a LAVH on 9/12 (they took my ovaries) and I go back to my Doc in one week. I was wondering how long the stitches at the vaginal cuff stay in. I have heard some of you talking about them coming out. How do you know when they come out? I'm sure you see a lot of blood.

Hi Usually you don't see much at all... they tend to dissolve, for the most part. I just saw a few little purple bits of thread on the panty liner at about six weeks post op. No blood, but a little yellowish discharge. It wasn't much compared to the drama I was expecting.

Maybe my eyesight is failing, but I haven't seen any evidence of stitches... yet. And no discharge of any kind since about 4 weeks, I'm happy to say.

Thanks ladies for the replies. That helped. I bled (vaginally) for the first few days when I came home, when I would strain to have a bm. After that it stopped, and now I am seeing the discharge.
