Pre op and post meno

Hello everyone, I'm 61 yrs old, just retired and will be scheduled for TAH soon. Not sure yet if it will be Da Vinci or open. I have ovarian cysts with tissue in them and thickened endometrium. Dr. thinks its likely not cancer but of course they won't know for sure until it's done.
The pre op threads are great. I've gotten some good ideas and learned a lot. I'm not even looking at the post op threads until after!
My last period was 2000. I've not taken hormones for years and don't want to. I can't seem to find any threads here for those who are post meno before hyster. Any help is appreciated.

Re: Pre op and post meno

I had the same scenario as you, my friend. Went through meno in 2006. Almost 60 years old. Ovarian cysts, uterine fibroids and thickened endo. Had my surgery 6 days ago and doing great. No pesky menopause symptoms to deal with since I have been there done that. No cancer. Recovering well. Haven't taken pain killers for a couple of days and managing fine with a heating pad. Pain is actually much less than before the surgery. Followed all the tips on the preop forum and was so grateful for all of them. I did have night sweats the second night as my body tried to rid itself of toxins from the anesthesia. My bladder has felt rather irritated from the catheter, but I am drinking lots and trying to ignore it. I will be thinking of you and saying prayers for your successful surgery and uneventful recovery.

Thanks Catinblack,I see you are by the mountains NE of our son at Clemson,SC. I love the mtns! I have a soft spot for VA too as we were married in VA Beach. So did they try to get you to take hormones post op? I'm wondering if this will be an issue.

Re: Pre op and post meno

My doc didn't mention hormones at my pre-op appt. I only saw him once before surgery because my regular obgyn referred me to an oncological gynecologist. I see him again a week from tomorrow. From what I have read, I would be surprised if he suggested hormones since I am post meno.

Great, that's how I'm hoping it will go. Haven't met my surgeon yet. Thanks for your reply, I hope you continue to do well in recovery!

Re: Pre op and post meno

I posted on the preop board this morning which tips were really helpful for me. You may want to check that out. I'll be thinking of you.
