Did I make the right decision not to have laparoscope hysterectomy last year?

I have been having fibroids over 17 years. I did MRI last year and it shows that I have 11 fibroids and the largest one is 12CM. I look like that I am 6 month pregnant. I do not have severe symptons. That 's why doctors ask me to check every 6 month. Last year, I consulted 5 doctors last year and three recommeded to have surgery; two recommeded not have surgery and just wait and see. Last year I did all tests including MRI, LDH and DC to prepare laparoscope hysterectomy. Last minute, i pullded off the surgery as I saw FDA warning about mocelator in laparoscope hysterectomy. not sure about open hysterectomy.

Now, I wonder whether I make right decision not to have laparoscope hysterectomy last year? BTW, the doctor mentioned that only removed uterus and leave others.

Can anyone share or help? This year I will turn to 50.

Re: Did I make the right decision not to have laparoscope hysterectomy last year?

I had my surgery almost a year ago. I could have chose to wait for menopause but I had so much heavy bleeding which caused anemia. I was concerned that my fibroids and uterus would continue to grow. At this time I was aware of the morcellation issue and when I asked I was told my surgeon did not use a morcellator. I knew going into surgery there was a chance it could be converted to open. My uterus ended up being massive and needed to be cut in order to fit through my vagina. I trusted my surgeon's abilities. Fortunately my final pathology was benign. Has your situation changed or remained the same? The decision for hysterectomy is a big one. I have no regrets.

Whether you made the right decision or not, you can't change the past. Wondering about all the what ifs in our lives can cause unnecessary stress. Instead, choose to move forward and make informed decisions about your health.

Thank you for all your help and sharing. I really appreciate your help.
Ealasaid, my situation has changed a little bit since 2013. my period is 6 days and plus 7 days spotting. My doc did D&C and normal. I hope that my menopause will come soon but I still have a period each month.

Weiser, Thank you so much for your advice. They really help me.

Thank you all who are willing to help others and have kind hearts. Great sisterhood!

Re: Did I make the right decision not to have laparoscope hysterectomy last year?

If your fibroids are not causing you any issues, such as heavy bleeding or pressure on your bladder, I would just keep watching and waiting.

I have read that upwards of 75% of women have fibroids and the majority do not have any issues.

I had a myomectomy in 2013 that provided a great deal of relief, but I just learned that new fibroids have grown to the point where they are pretty big, but as of now not causing any problems. I'm going to watch and wait.

Best of luck on deciding what is best for YOU!
