hi there :)

Hi - I am totally new, and just wanted to introduce myself. My surgery is Aug. 18, and I am starting to get frustrated at the mumber of people who ask me if I have thought this through. What is that???

Anyway - I just wanted to vent that a bit, and say hello. I have to say - this is just the cutest. I collect penguin stuff, and was thrilled to see this. So to all!

hi there :)

jessilynn68~

Welcome to Hyster Sisters! If that is the only question you get asked I'm surprised, I've been asked some doozies. You have found a great site, all of us here have at least one thing in common...ok two really; we are women and we will be losing at least part of our reproductive system. The support you receive here is priceless and the friends you make are endless. Ask all the questions you can think of and check out the pre and post op articles.

Nice to meet you,

Donna

Don't listen to them

It is amazing how much unsolicited advice and dumb questions you can get. My aunt asked me "is this really necessary". I was so tempted to say - "not really. Right now the fibroids are only pressing on my bladder and bowel. Maybe I should wait until they crush all of my organs. " Another boneheaded question - with narrowed eyebrows, "what causes those fibroids", with a definite implication that I ate or did something wrong.

Listen to your DR and your own common sense. Keep positive about all of this.

hi there :)

Thanks for the warm welcome, Donna. I have been asked others, especially about "how will I ever be able to have kids now," but the most common is "Wow how drastic - have you really thought this through? I mean, really really?" How insulting, ya know?

Anyway - thanks for the kidness.

hi there :)

And thanks to whistler

You know, the most annoying questions I got before this was about being a twin, and not being married and having no kids. I thought I had heard them all, apparently not so. I didn't think it could get worse then "if your b-day is Aug. 9, when is your twin's b-day?" I have actually been asked if my twin will be having a hyster on the same day. Thankfully, she has no gyno problems outside of PMS.

Oh well, I am trying to stay positive, and thanks again.

lol....

Dumb things said before a hyster....

hmmmm...

One friend of mine said, "Does that mean you won't have children"?

Another one said, "Won't it bother you to go without sex for the rest of your life"? (lol, 3 months post-op and I can now tell you sex is better than ever!)

Then, the best one..."When I have cramps I just take Motrin. Can't you use something like that"? LOL...

Sometimes people just don't get it, you know? lol

Anyways...pull up a chair and make yourself at home here. You won't find any of those crazy comments here. You'll find a lot of support and understanding!

hi there :)

Hi Rita - and thanks!

Just when I think i have heard it all - but I have gotten the motrin thing a bunch. My sister is the prime one who does this. I had a 4 day migraine once, and it happened right before Thanksgiving. I obviously couldn't fly, and she told me to "get my sorry "butt" on the plane and suck it up and get home." About 6 months later, she got her first migraine and called me crying and apologizing. :P I do think its hard for some people to understand, but come on...

Again, thanks for the welcome, and the good news - sex gets better huh???

hi there :)

Well I guess I'm fortunate that since I'm 45 and at the age where it all makes sense I didn't hear any of those wonderful comments. Thanks ladies for the laugh

Hello to You!!!

We will be hyster-twins!!!

Hi,I'm Tess_Northwest, and am set to have my TAH/LSO on August 18 @ 7:30am PDT. I've been really ok with this most of the time, but the last few days I've shed a few tears. I am SO grateful we have this wonderful place to come to, where caring & understanding abounds!

You'll be in my and in my prayers.

My assistant asked me yesterday.... "Will your periods be as bad after your surgery?" LOL!!!

She finally realized what "DUH!" question it was!
