Sciatic pain

Anyone else having what seems to be sciatic pain down the back of your leg?

I have this weird feeling in one of my butt cheeks and it radiates down my leg if I lift it too high. When I first came home I could not lift this leg at all and now this.

Just wondering if anyone else has leg pain? I am 11 days post-op today.

I had back problems for a long time before my hysterectomy so sciatic pain before or after was not a surprise for me. However, my doc did tell me that first of all my sciatica may be worse for a bit after the surgery because of the way we are positioned for surgery and second because we swell all over in there after surgery and that could press on a nerve that would cause travelling sciatic pain. Does that help?

I also have terrible sciatic/lower back pain (piriformis syndrome--the pain that you describe starting in your butt), but have suffered from it for years so it's nothing new. However, it does seem to be flaring up extra strong right now. I attribute it to not being able or wanting to use my abdominal muscles, and so my back is compensating. That certainly is what sent me to the chiropractor the first time.

That helps! I too have had periodic sciatic pain, depending on my weight and activity level. I knew something was going on due to the position and length of surgery. Hopefully it will settle down soon.
