TAH: Upcoming hysterectomy 6/8: Yes bowel Prep again.

I have to do a bowel prep. I have to do the mag citrate. And then a fleet enema. Should I do a clear liquid diet or just eat normally this weekend? Surgery is Monday.

You should follow the instructions you were given re: diet. I was told clear liquids only after 5 PM the day before surgery, nothing to eat or drink after midnight.

Clear liquid diets don't contain really anything in the way of protein, so I wouldn't advise doing one all weekend unless you've been told to. On the other hand, I wouldn't suggest heading out for Bubba's All-You-Can-Eat BBQ Ribs 'n' Wings on Saturday night. Just eat normally.

Instructions said nothing about limiting diet. Just the mag citrate and enema. I will eat on the light side this weekend.

Hello, I am having a TAH on Monday as well. My instructions are for the mag only but it said to eat a light breakfast and lunch the day before surgery and take the mag at 2 pm and only a clear liquid diet after 4pm with nothing after midnight. I know all docs are different though. Eating on the lighter side sounds like a good plan. Wishing you the best on Monday.

My mag citrate is for 7 pm and enema is for 9 pm. Drunk 32 ounces of water during prep. I will just eat light all weekend.

You might want to call the hospital and check as to whether you're allowed to eat or drink anything after midnight. That's a pretty standard rule when you're having anesthesia. You don't want to eat breakfast Monday, arrive at the hospital and then be told that your surgery has to be postponed.

I on my own ate very lightly the day before the bowel prep. Then the day of bowel prep I only had clear liquids until after the surgery.

It is nothing after midnight. I am the first surgery scheduled for his day. It just said the 32 ounces of water during the prep. So between the mag citrate and enema to help keep me hydrated.
